About the Author

Best-selling author Dana Carpender was startled to discover that limiting her carbohydrate intake not only helped her control her weight, but produced the health and vitality a low fat diet had promised but never delivered. Fifteen years later, she laughs at people who say "You can't eat that way long-term." Her eight cookbooks are the result of her realization that the key to permanent dietary change is the answer to the age-old question, "What's for supper?" To date they have sold over a million copies worldwide. Dana blogs about low carb nutrition at www.HoldtheToast.com; her weekly blog digest goes out to over 20,000 readers. She is also Managing Editor of CarbSmart magazine at www.CarbSmart.com, as well as a featured staff writer. Dana lives in Bloomington, Indiana with her husband and a menagerie of pets, all of whom are well and healthily fed.

I initially got this book out of the library. After using a few of the recipes, I knew I had to have it for myself. I kept renewing it at the library while I waited to receive it by mail.

In the meantime, my sister-in-law, saw the book at my house over Christmas - many of our wonderful desserts over Christmas came from this book - and decided she had to have it as well. The recipes are excellent, even if you are not committed to a low carb diet.

The author uses the slow cooker a lot which appeals to my need for simple-to-prepare meals.

It has no pictures and it is printed on cheap paper, but the recipes are amazing! Everything I have made from it tastes great and is low carb. Not to mention simple to put together. Spagetthi squash carbonara, a delicious shrimp and coconut casserole, slow cooker chicken thighs in coconut milk - if I had the book in front of me I would list even more. Recipes are easy, tasty, varied and low carb. If you have only one low carb cookbook on your shelf, make it this one!

I am not new to a low-carb diet and purchased this book on the ratings given on the U.S. Amazon website. I am absolutely disappointed with this purchase. If you like Splenda and a bunch of 'fake' and hard to find ingredients, go for it. I like my food, even low-carb to be real and without additives. The draw for me was the "look inside" enticement on the U.S. website. The first several pages there are filled with worthwhile information. Had I stuck with that, I would have saved myself the trouble and cost of this book.
