Product Description

Product Description

They’re the very best in contemporary glass beadmaking, 1000 dazzling and unique examples by an international array of artists. This color survey has it all: the beads come single or in multiples, in jewelry or sculptural pieces, flameworked and kilnformed; and their diversity and beauty are amazing. Julia Skop’s intriguing Secret Surprise showcases clear glass beads with millefiori slices at the ends. Bruce St. John crafts his beads out of diachroic glass, then fuses and coldworks them at the lapidary well after completion. Nebula Black Necklace, from Rene Roberts, features an organic-looking focal bead adorned with fine metal leaf, glass shards, and a subtle dot decoration. An artist’s comment and detail image accompany many of the photos. A Selection of the Crafters Choice Book Club.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiration on each page, Mar 4 2005
By D. Schaneman "Deirscha" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: 1000 Glass Beads: Innovation & Imagination in Contemporary Glass Beadmaking (Paperback)
If you're looking for a how-to manual, keep looking. But if you're looking for a book with beautiful photographs of glass beads, you're in the right place. Each page contains photographs of beads by talented glass artisans. What's especially nice about this book is that there are artists represented from many different skill levels. For an intermediate glass artist like me, it's good to see that I've come a long way, but there is still so much territory to explore. The photographs in this book catalog this evolution exquisitely.

It's inspirational and almost overwhelming to see so many gorgeous beads together. It will provide me with inspiration for a long time.

I would recommend this book for artists and collectors alike.

5.0 out of 5 stars An awesome book!, Nov 11 2004

This review is from: 1000 Glass Beads: Innovation & Imagination in Contemporary Glass Beadmaking (Paperback)
Wow, what an amazing book! Whether you love glass beads and lampwork or you just love beautiful art, I believe you will be thrilled with this book. This book is definitely not a 'how to' book for those who want to make beads, but it is sure to inspire you beyond your imagination. There are over 400 pages in this book with very little text, however each page contains one or two, large, full color, highly detailed photos with a caption giving you the name of the artist and a very brief description of their technique. There are hundreds of different artists featured in the book with just as many different styles.... and these are not merely 'glass beads', these are absolute works of art which left me in awe every time I turned the page. (By the way, the price of the book definitely belies the quality, I honestly was not expecting such a high caliber book for this price.)

5.0 out of 5 stars VERY inspiring for all artists!, Feb 4 2006
By Chel Micheline "Chel Micheline" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: 1000 Glass Beads: Innovation & Imagination in Contemporary Glass Beadmaking (Paperback)
I'm actually a polymer clay artist, and I've gotten more out of this book than *any* other book I've purchased/read in the never-ending quest to inspire and improve my work. There aren't any instructions or biographies, just huge, detailed photos of many, many glass beads, and some information on technique and materials.

For me, this book challenged me to get out my clay and try and re-create what I was seeing. It's impossible to have the same effects in glass and clay, so my results weren't similar, but I wound up discovering new canes, new techniques, and new ways to work with PC. This book is truly an education. I also dabble in watercolor, and the beautiful art inspired me to really try and get more a depth in my work.

It's an amazing inspiration for anyone in the arts- especially those interested in jewelry and beads. Even guests who come to the house who are not interested in glass/beads/jewelry are stunned by the book. Total eye candy!

Treat yourself!
