Product Description

"Editor Dominic Roskrow knows what he’s talking about. He was the editor of Whisky Magazine for several years and has a written a few other well-respected books on humanity’s finest beverage. "

"Crisp bottle photographs, old-school advertisements, and a healthy blend of rye, bourbon, and emerging trend knowledge make for one heady read. Between tasting notes and distillery tours, Roskrow’s liquor and food industry friends from around the globe weigh in on topics like 18th-century United Kingdom label feuds and futuristic techniques emanating from (where else?) Japan."

"We don't recommend trying them all at once — or even over the course of a month — but should you make it through all the varied selections in 1001 Whiskies You Must Taste Before You Die ($25), you'll no doubt be a more well-rounded drinker."

About the Author

Dominic Roskrow is the author of The World’s Best Whiskies and also edits Whiskeria, the world’s biggest whisky magazine. He has written for Whisky Magazine (where he was editor for four years), Harper’s, Drinks International, Malt Advocate, and Rupert Murdoch’s new iPad newspaper, The Daily. In 2007, he was awarded the highest Scotch whisky honor when he was made a Keeper of the Quaich, and in 2010 he was made a Kentucky Colonel, Kentucky’s highest award.

I bought the hard cover book and was pleasantly surprised with Amazon's free delivery service. I bought the book on Friday and it was delivered on Tuesday.

The book is a must for every whisky lover. The brief write-up on each distillery is very interesting and informative. I'm tagging the pages as I get to sample the whiskies and I even give the whiskies my own rating - lot's of fun.

The book is proudly displayed on the top shelf of my bar next to the good whiskies.

A great resource for a whisky aficionado. This made a wonderful gift for my husband. He has enjoyed it before & after a vacation to Scotland where we sampled & purchased a few good bottles.

Great book if you love whisky Sept. 13 2012

I'm a new whisky lover and recently joined a whisky club (people contribute a bottle and pay some dues). I bought this book to share with the other members and everyone seemed to enjoy it. Each article has a short story about the origin and nature of the whisky as well as some tasting notes. I love that I can read a little background information about the whiskies I'm trying out. Whiskies are a lot like people -- each have their own stories and some of them are fascinating to downright bizarre. And this book is not limited to only single-malt scotches either. You will find reviews for whisky and bourbons from around the globe. In my experience, I've really enjoyed branching out to regions not known for whisky production as they produce some great flavours.

Keep in mind that this is not a ratings guide like Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2012 although it does have some basic tasting notes. You will also not find prices either (but it does have a link to the distillery's website for each whisky). So you may become excited about a particular whisky only to find that it is out of your price range.

If you are new to whisky, then I suggest reading some random pages. You will learn a lot. If you like to have whisky tastings, buy this book and place it next to the bottles. Because talking about whisky is half the fun of drinking them!

What a gift March 10 2014

My brother bought this for as a Christmas gift this past year, as he and I along with our dad really enjoy Kentucky Bourbon. I must say this book has opened up an entire new world of whiskeys for me. I don't think it is possible to taste all 1001 whiskies in this book but I am going to try my best!

1001 whiskies you must taste before you die June 5 2012

If you are serious about your whiskies this is a must have book. The photography is worth the price. This book will be put next to the bible as the definitive authority on whiskey. Well organized, printed on high gloss paper, this is truly a work of art.
Enourmous collection of fine whiskies, bourbons, and ryes. Good luck getting to all of them! Jan. 9 2015

Great gift for a fellow whisky lover. This whiskey "compendium" is not so much a guide of whiskies you should check out in your lifetime as the title suggests. Instead, it's more like a collection of every whisky that has every been created with detailed notes on each whisky's history, flavor, and drinking suggestions. The book includes multiple ages of many bottles, and special editions, many of which an average connoisseur will never get their hands on. Even so, it's cool to have an enourmous checklist, and be able to measure your notes with the "professionals.'"
Interesting! Heavy book March 18 2013

Amazing how many whiskies there are in the world. Though I prefer whiskies from Scotland, there are other countries represented in the book as well. The stories about each distillery and their products are interesting and insightful. This book is large and heavy, so it's not something you can take with you especially on a trip to Scotland. Wish it would be released as a kindle version.
