Book Description

Sep 28 2009 082610472X 978-0826104724 2

"This is an excellent workbook for students or healthcare professionals who are just beginning to interpret 12-lead EKGs. The book covers what is expected, but the manner in which it presents the material brings much clarity to the topic."--Doody's Medical Reviews

This practical, comprehensive text serves as a step-by-step, hands-on workbook for those learning to interpret 12-Lead EKGs. With over 45 years of experience in cardiac care, authors Green and Chiaramida present the content and technical understanding students need to accurately analyze, interpret, and comprehend the variety of rhythm strips that make up 12-lead EKGs.

This book introduces basic principles of anatomy and physiology, including a review of the heart's electrical system. The chapters discuss vital elements of cardiology, such as atrial and ventricular arrhythmias, conduction abnormalities and heart block, ischemic and nonischemic disorders, and more. Explanations of terms and concepts are concise and to the point, allowing students to focus on the most important information. With this guide, medical and nursing students will gain the confidence they need to accurately interpret 12-lead EKGs.

Key Features:

  • Self-Study Objectives listed at the start of each chapter
  • Enlarged segments of the 12-Lead EKG rhythm strips to ensure that the student views the appropriate lead, and sees the entire 12-lead strip
  • Worksheets at the end of each chapter, allowing students to practice measurement, evaluate and interpret rhythms, and develop diagnostic reasoning skills
  • A self assessment section for students at the end of the book

5.0 out of 5 stars The title doesn't lie! Oct 13 2009
By Jar Jar - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This book offers by far one of the clearest and most logical approaches to interpreting EKGs that I have come across. Rather than emphasizing rote memorization of pattern recognition, this book provides conceptual explanations and walks you through a process of reading an EKG chapter by chapter. The level of detail is perfect for medical students, residents, and anyone interested in getting a solid background on the subject. The book reads like a self-study course and workbook, and if you dedicate a weekend to looking it over, you will find that you can really interpret EKGs with confidence.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great EKG Book! Mar 2 2010
By A. Masand - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I've read a number of EKG interpretation books and, among them, this one is truly the best. The step-by-step approach is easy to understand, and the practice EKGs at the end of each chapter help to solidify the information learned. What I like most about the book is that the chapters are short and the explanations are concise. The author does a great job of incorporating just what you need to know in the context of clinical correlates. After reading this book, EKGs are no longer overwhelming and I can approach them with confidence. If you read this book, you will be sure not to miss a beat! It is definitely a must-have for medical students and residents.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing EKG Book! Feb 11 2010
By mmustafa - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I actually read through the first edition in its entirety and have so far only had a chance to peruse this second edition. This book is even better written than the first edition (which was probably the best EKG book I've read to begin with) and makes some concepts a little easier to understand such as getting a good appreciation for Axis, something that always gave me trouble. . . It didn't take long to see that this book is amazing in the level of detail it provides, yet is written in such an easy to understand way that it truly does build confidence. This book focuses on learning EKG concepts and actually getting to the bottom of what it all really means, (as opposed to other EKG books that focus on memorizing patterns with no real foundational comprehension.) I would recommend this book to any medical student or resident and assure you that it will make you confident in reading EKG's. Kudos to the authors and the only thing better than this book, is being able to have had a brief medical student elective with Dr. Chiaramida himself, which was both an honor and privilege! Thanks again Dr. Chiaramida!
