Album Details

Only Few Current Bands Cover Such a Broad Spectrum of Musical Influences as the Swedish Cult Prog Metal Rockers Pain of Salvation, who Are Lead by Daniel Gildenlow, One of the Most Creative Musicians of the Swedish Music Scene. This Stroke of Genius is the Live Recorded Acoustic Album "12:5" Which is Conceptually Separated Into Three Books (Book I: Genesis, Book Ii: Genesister, and Book Iii: Genesinister) and which Entirely Represents the Great Musical Skills of Those Five Swedish Guys. The Otherwise Rather Metallic Sounding Band Captivates the Listener with a Vivid Sound Characterized by Acoustic Guitar and Piano. In this Sound Powerful Approaches Are Mixed with Quieter Parts that Remind of Moody Bar Music.

2.0 out of 5 stars Ouch, Feb 11 2007

I only gave this album one listening. There was this build up of cheesy love songs that reminded me too much of boy bands whining.

I absolutely loved Entropia and One Hour by the Concrete Lake; I believe The Perfect Element pt.1 is actually perfect; I defended the heart-intensified Remedy Lane, even though I know Second Love is a guilty pleasure, an amateur ballad (that I like, still, as this album is my favorite by Pain of Salvation); I never got passed 6 seconds of This Heart of Mine, it frightens me.

I very rarely like acoustic versions of good songs, but I bought this 12:5 thing because I love the band. I won't though, buy Scarsick. BE isn't music, it's a soundtrack version of a series of bad short-films. And the reason I'm reviewing -this- album is because I believe it was the beginning of the end and I resent it.

The 2 stars are for my love of the band and their quality as musicians/artists; but from then on, it was all heartbreaking change for the worst.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!...only Pain of Salvation could do this!, Mar 23 2004
This review is from: 12 : Pain Of Salvation (Audio CD)
I'm blown away! This is easily the best unplugged, acoustic show I've ever heard. The playing is awesome, and the singing is incredible. Usually, the lead singer sounds good and the other members of the band sound bad, NOT HERE! Johan Halgren and Johan Langell sing awesome! I won't go through each song, but this album is jaw-droppingly good!

5.0 out of 5 stars I Felt the Pain!, Mar 19 2004

Well....what to say....other than WOW. I knew it would be good, but honestly, it is almost too good! The beautiful transition from power and harmony to acustic power and harmony was perfectly done. Which in my eyes, just shows the amazing talent this band has in ALL areas. Daniels singing shines through more in this album than any other. On the most part he hits all notes, even adding some that were not in the studio releases, and he does it all live. Also, his vocals are easier to hear as he powers over the music at times, and that is not a bad thing. The additions to the songs are subtle enough, but when compared, are very substantial. All the same songs, but it's like hearing them for the first time all over again. And if your as much of a fan as I am, you remember the first time you heard the songs. The same great experiance! The only way to find anything wrong with this cd would be to nitpick the hell out of it, and I have better things to do than pick my brain for hours to find a few things that arn't quite as cool as the rest of it. If you haven't yet, buy it, if you have, enjoy. If for some reason, you are not familiar with the band, don't buy it, buy a studio album first, save this little gem for when you really love the band!
