1.0 out of 5 stars Mispackaged!! May 12 2010
Format:Audio CD
I'm sure the actual recording is great and I've seen the show done locally by a high school so it's definitely worth checking out. My issue is that I've ordered the cd twice and both times it came, it had been mispackaged! The case, liner, and cd all indicated it was the musical "13" but when I plugged in the cd, I quickly discovered that I had a cd of Asian spa music. Yup. The whole thing. I missed the deadline to return it so gave it to my massage therapist, then ordered a second one and even though it had been opened previously (and I'm thinking "Okay, great, they at least went through them and weeded out the bad ones"), I got ANOTHER cd of Asian spa music!! Now I think I've missed the deadline to return that one too -- bah! I'm busy, what can I say, but geez Amazon, get your act together!

1.0 out of 5 stars Crazy Feb. 4 2010
Format:Audio CD
We were excited about receiving this CD, because it is hard to find.
However, the music did NOT match the title. We got another copy, same problem.
The batch must have been corrupted.
Very disappointing.

5.0 out of 5 stars 13 is Golden May 5 2011
By Charles O. Reed - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
I am not sure were the other folks are getting their information but 13 was never a flop. It played out in New York on Broadway for 105 shows and for over a year. It's tour ended per contract. It has played world wide and was a hugh hit there as well. It is funny and a solid production. It is well worth the CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars 13 ~ The Musical Jan. 9 2009
By Teatro alla Scala - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
This is a really sweet, funny musical. The kids involved in this show are extreemly talented with a couple being standouts. The cd includes a couple of songs that were dropped from the show. "Opportunity" is perhaps one of the best songs in the show and it was dropped. Maybe if they would have left the show intact it would have played longer on Broadway. I saw the show two weeks before it closed and I really liked it. I hope it has a long life with tours and local theater because the story and the music are both very good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Why are we hating on JRB! This is AMAZING!!! Nov. 30 2008
A Kid's Review - Published on Amazon.com

Jason Robert Brown outdoes himself with 13. The only work he's done equal to it is Songs For a New World. I wish that more people could see the genius behind this work. I don't think everybody realizes how grown-up 13 year olds are. 8th or 9th graders know WAYY more that people think they do and can speak quite eloquently when they want to

4.0 out of 5 stars 13 Nov. 25 2008
By Robert F. Powers - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
The Broadway Cast Album boasts some lively, tuneful songs by Jason Robert Brown who also provided the witty and clever lyrics...but perhaps a bit too clever and witty coming from the mouths of 13 year olds. It has been many moons since I was thirteen and perhaps times have changed but at that age I can't recall me or my contemporaries rhyming exotic with neurotic. The cast are all unknowns but they acquit themselves really well and have lots of energy but I was especially impressed with Allie Trimm who plays Patrice.

The main thrust of the show revolves around Evan a young Jewish lad from New York about to celebrate his Bar Mitzvah whose life is turned upside-down when his father leaves his mother for a stewardess. Mother takes Evan and transplants them to a small town in Indiana. Evan decides to gain acceptance faster by trying to impress the older and cooler kids at school. He also hopes this acceptance will make for more guests at his post-poned Bar Mitzvah. The rest of the story involves new friends, betrayal, and Evans scheme to arrange a date for a lunkhead school jock named Brett who is anxious to give Kendra a cheerleader, "the tongue".

The show has not caught on but who is the target audience? It's too grown-up for 13 year olds and too childish for grown-ups. This little red-riding hood of a show would probably be more suited to a small regional theatre than the big,bad wolf that is Broadway.

All in all this a pleasant listening experience but will never be a classic and probably will not be the type of musical I would listen to over and over again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pure fun! Aug. 23 2009

Loved the Broadway show. Have no clue as to why it didn't get good reviews. Must have been sour old people who reviewed the show. I laughed throughout the show and loved the actors and the energy. They gave it their all and it showed. I wanted to get the soundtrack because of the show and I love it. I hope they do a road tour and many other people get a chance to see this show.
