Product Description

From Amazon.co.uk

Even as the Beatles began heading toward an inevitable break-up, their prolific ways continued; this two-disc look back only skims the surface of their later achievements. Excerpts from Sgt. Pepper, Magical Mystery Tour, the white album, Abbey Road, and Let It Be compete for space with classic singles that do as much or more to prove their eclecticism: the epic ballad "Hey Jude", the plaintive "Strawberry Fields Forever", straight rock & roll of all stripes from the plainspoken "Revolution" and "Get Back" to the surreal "Come Together". Decades after the split, this (and its companion set of 1962-1966 cuts) remains a favoured introduction for young listeners and a key sampler for veteran fans. --Rickey Wright

--Philippe Robert

5.0 out of 5 stars The ULTIMATE desert island disc, Aug 30 2002
By R.J. (Toronto, Canada) - See all my reviews
No matter how much music I've listened to over the years, I always come back to the "blue" album, in my opinion the best greatest hits package of all time. From Sgt. Pepper, to Magical Mystery Tour, to the White Album, Abbey Road and Let It Be, it captures the best of the Beatles' later more creative period. This was my introduction to A Day In the Life, I Am The Walrus, Don't Let Me Down, and other songs which I didn't know at the time. Many years later I have bought all the records, heard all the songs a million times, but there's something about playing this at the right time that makes this the one I would take to a desert island with me. (if I could choose only one)

Any collection which has Hey Jude, Let It Be, Get Back, Strawberry Fields Forever and While My Guitar Gently Weeps on the same album is pretty damn great no matter how you look at it, and there's much more of course. Over the years there have been other much hyped collections, but the red and blue albums are absolutely definitive.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Love The Later Beatles, Dec 22 2003
By A Customer
I'm Writing this review because of a bad review of this CD that claimed:
"Were the Beatles original? I don't believe so, their music is so trite. So copied.
Who did they copy? no one during the sixities even sounded like the beatles. Until alot of people who came afterward tried to sound like them. Maybe you should check original release dates? And they also claimed that cookie cutter artist avril lavine is better, please! this is about as good as when my teenage sister used to say that hanson, nsync, and mc hammer were better too. Come back when avril lavine is still selling a good amount of records and can still have a number 1 seller 40 years after she was originally released. As matter of fact how about over 20 number 1 hits and over 40 top 5 hits in a six year period competing against artists that are in the same league as the once future legends rolling stones, the who, elvis, the beach boys, bob dylan, the doors, jimi hendrix, janis joplin, eric claptin etc.

And don't try pawn me as some old dude that hates new stuff, because I am barely out of high school.

5.0 out of 5 stars second to no band, Jan 25 2004
By louie (Grosse Pointe United States) - See all my reviews
the beatles are the number one rock band ever to set foot on this planet, no questions asked. Not even Jim Morrison or Robert Plant can put together so many kick ass albums like the beatles. I can go through every beatles CD without changing one track, only repeating some. Also, in my opinion, the later "pyschodelic"(lsd) beatles are even better than the awesome light love songs composed in the earlier years. This CD includes most of the beatles great late hits and includes a good combinations of songs from Sgt Peppers, Magical Mystery Tour, White Album, Abbey Road, etc. if you like rock buy all of the beatles CD's they don't disapoint
