Product Description

Product Description

Full title; 1968 To 1970- An Axelrod Anthology. Compilation of innovative and, at the time, overlooked solo material and productions by the often-sampled artist/ arranger/composer, one of the most influential producers of the late '60s. 18 tracks, including performances by Axelrod, Electric Prunes, Lou Rawls and Letta Mbulu. Some of the tracks included have been sampled by Fatboy Slim, U.N.K.L.E, DJ Shadow and many others. It took the music industry over 20 years to finally catch up to what Axelrod was creating in the '60s and '70s, but it's never too late to enjoy it! EMI.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good stuff. Mar 23 2002
Format:Audio CD
There is something for anyone to like on this, from African singing, to spacey jazz, to stuff that sounds like soundtracks to great non-existant films. This is more varied than his recent cd, so if you like it, try this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Going for Baroque Oct 12 2001
Format:Audio CD
David Axelrod's production reeks of late 60s West Coast rock. This compilation covers work from his own albums as well as a few examples of his touch with other artists. Individual tracks range from the very good to the excellent, but as a whole the rather baroque arrangements and stale psychedelia can sometimes make it quite heavy going. If you appreciate music of this era this is a worthy buy.
