Product Description

From Amazon.com

Recorded during their controversial 2003 tour, these two discs romp through an ample sampling of hits ("Wide Open Spaces," "There's Your Trouble," "Goodbye Earl," "Travelin' Soldier") as well as beloved album cuts ("Hello Mr. Heartache," "Some Days You Gotta Dance"). Twangy and cheeky all the way, the group rides an energy wave that continues through the stunning two-song encore of "Top of the World" and "Sin Wagon." Yet as powerful as the full-band performances are, the trio's true essence emerges during the acoustic moments--"White Trash Wedding," "Ready to Run," and "Lil' Jack Slade" among them--as well as the Texas shuffler "Hello Mr. Heartache." Some acts might have tried to gloss over a flap like the one Natalie Maines's anti-Bush administration remarks caused. Not here. Patty Griffin's "Truth No. 2" (from the Chicks' Home album) faces that issue head-on. But beyond the political tempests--and Music Row's still-bruised feelings over their contractual firefights with their label--this collection affirms one truth: the Chicks remain the best hope of bringing country into the 21st century with postmodern vitality and its traditions intact. --Rich Kienzle

5.0 out of 5 stars The Dixie Chicks have made history, July 13 2004
By

This review is from: 2003 Top Of The World Tour (Audio CD)
The Dixie Chicks recording of the Top of the World Tour is truly amazing. This live CD is full of energy and bliss. This CD has easily made the Dixie Chicks my favorite band of all time; this CD puts me in a whole different place every time I listen to it. I can't even describe what this CD does to you, it's just so breathe taking. The music is flawless, the lyrics full of heart and the crowd as energetic as possible. From songs of Dixie Chicks politics like Truth No. 2 to Bob Dylan's cover of Mississippi to the fun of Sin Wagon and Some Days You Gotta Dance, to the emotions of Travellin' Soldier. The Chicks put every great song they've ever sang on these 2 disc set and the result is incredible. Every song is timeless and moving. The Dixie Chicks have made history.

5.0 out of 5 stars American Women, July 3 2004
By

This review is from: 2003 Top Of The World Tour (Audio CD)
I'm glad the Dixie Chicks have stayed strong through the smear campaign waged against them last year. The mood of the country is changing and with it I'm sure many Chicks fans are regretting the burning and bulldozing their Chick CDs. Thankfully, true fans, like the ones at http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/chicksupport/ , have stood by them. They are good women who love their country and it's a shame they were treated so horribly. With songs on this album like "Traveling Soldier" it's amazing anyone could question their patriotism. They do a great job on this CD.

3.0 out of 5 stars Bad recording, May 4 2004

The Chicks and band are fabulous but it's difficult to tell on this recording. Sounds as though someone in the audience set up two cheap mics and recorded onto a portable DAT machine. Terrible!
And this from a group that has consistently released sonically supurb records. What happened?
