5.0 out of 5 stars Kid loves it Oct. 29 2013

I'm not an expert coin collector but my 8 year old son is getting into it. As a reward for good schoolwork, he may get a coin after a week or month or whatever. In third grade Montessori, they are supposed to do 15 "goals" a week. If he does them all, he may get something like a Mercury dime, V-nickel, etc. If greater than 12 a week for 4 weeks in a row, he'll get the Braille silver dollar that he found in the book and wants so bad. This is working like a charm!

The first part of the book is great info for the young coin collector. What to look for, grading, where to find coins, how to take care of them, etc. Later in the digest are the various coins and estimated values.

I also recommend the books/folders made of hard paper or posterboard which hold coins. The state quarters are fantastic for a kid to collect in these. Lincoln pennies are another.
5.0 out of 5 stars just curious Oct. 2 2013

I was just curious about some money my husband had left me; sitting in a box in the bottom of a closet. Needless to say, after I got this book I took out a safety deposit box at my bank. If I hadn't been curious, they woud all still be sitting there and who knows what could have happened to them!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Reference Book Sept. 5 2012
By An Indy Fan - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
I am a beginner coin collector born out or necessity after inheriting a large collection of U.S. coins after my father passed away. I purchased this book to help identify that collection and it has proven to be a wonderful resource. The organization and color images make identifying coins easy. Much to my surprise I've enjoyed the process. The book is hardcover with a hidden spiral binding that allows the book to open easily and lay flat while in use. This is a big help while going through hundreds of samples of the same coin denomination. All-in-all a great book that has been a big help to me.
