I'll be honest: There aren't too many performances of Bach cantatas that I DO NOT like. These performances of Cantatas 77,78 and 79 by the Gachinger Kantorei are especially enjoyable. They may be a little fuller and richer than the ultra-purists prefer but I find them to be warm and full of humanity. I bought the CD to get a recording of the soprano/alto duet from #78, Wir Eilen Mit Schwachen, Doch Emsigen Schritten. I've sung with soprano Arlene Auger and this recording is representative of her joyful, refined singing. The duet has a happy, almost playful accompaniment and has also been set as a duet for two flutes. A good investment of less that $20 for more than an hour of wonderful Bach, done well.
