In 1986, the legendary Peter, Paul & Mary marked their 25th anniversary with the taping of their first PBS special. Now, two and a half decades later, in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the formation of the group, this joyous, yet deeply moving live concert is finally released on DVD by Shout Factory.

As stated on the DVD back cover, this concert features songs that became, for many, the soundtrack of their generation. In an era in which folk music became America's messenger of hope, PP&M sounded a call to conscience that, to this day, remains an enduring part of our national quest for equity and justice.

The video is in 1.33:1. The quality is acceptable, with some details, such as the individual hair on Peter Yarrow's mustache. The skin tone is natural. The trade-mark blonde hair on Mary Travers was clearly defined.

The audio is also acceptable. The 3-part harmony of Peter, Paul & Mary is clearly heard.

But the real gem is the content of the concert. Peter Yarrow's sense of humour was represented in the song Puff, The Magic Dragon. You will get a chuckle when you hear his version. And his voice is oh do pure. Paul Stookey's Where Have All The Flowers Gone and Wedding Song (There Is Love) are deeply moving. Of course, we have our Mary Travers, who sadly has passed away in 2009 due to complications from treatment of leukemia. Here she is at her best...warm, passionate and simply wonderful to listen to. She is deeply missed.

Although this concert does not have all the hits, the major ones are included, such as Puff the Magic Dragon, Where Have All The Flowers Gone, Wedding Song (There Is Love), Leaving On A Jet Plane, If I Had A Hammer, Blowin' In the Wind and This Land is Your Land.

I taped this from an old PBS broadcast almost 30 years ago and when vhs disappeared, transferred it to dvd. The quality was pretty poor, so this dvd is a fantastic improvement. It's not widescreen and the sound is only stereo, but the content is excellent and timeless. Suitable for all ages.

I know the concert was filmed in 1986 but I feel the quality of the picture to DVD could have been better. Great sound though, and that's what counts.

I was really looking forward to an afternoon with the family around the TV sharing and singing but unfortunately this DVD was cracked when I received it and I wasn't able to appropriately review it.
