Follow-up to BioShock, 2K Games critically acclaimed and commercially successful 2007 release, BioShock 2 is a first-person shooter set in the fictional underwater city of Rapture. As in the original game, BioShock 2 features a blend of fast-paced action, exploration and puzzle-solving as players follow varying paths through the overarching storyline based on the decisions that they are forced to make at various points in the game. In addition to a further fleshing out of the franchise's popular storyline, players can look forward to new characters, game mechanics, weapons, locations and a multiplayer game option.
Set approximately 10 years after the events of the original BioShock, the halls of Rapture once again echo with sins of the past. Along the Atlantic coastline, a monster--somehow familiar, yet still quite different from anything ever seen--has been snatching little girls and bringing them back to the undersea city. It is a Big Sister, a new denizen of Rapture who was once one of the forgotten little girls known as Little Sisters who previously inhabited the city's dank halls. No longer a pawn used to harvest ADAM, the dangerously powerful lifeblood of Rapture, from the bodies of others and in turn run the risk of being harvested herself, the Big Sister is now the fastest and most powerful thing in Rapture. You, on the other hand are the very first Big Daddy, similar to the Big Daddies familiar from the original BioShock, but also very different. The question is as you travel through the decrepit and beautiful fallen city beneath the waves, hunting for answers and the solution to your own survival, are you really the hunter or the hunted? Gameplay Although full gameplay details have yet to be released, is is known that in BioShock 2 players will take on the role of the original Big Daddy, not that of the original series protagonist, Jack. As a Big Daddy you will have access to most, if not all the strengths and weapons of a standard Big Daddy, as well as others such as free will and a new relationship to Little Sisters that although allowing for the familiar choice as to whether to harvest or adopt them, creates a different dynamic between characters. In addition, the game will feature new plasmids, weapons, the ability to combine these two and much anticipated multiplayer modes including: Free-for-all, and Team Death Match. Key Features

A Great Followup,

Bioshock 2 is a great followup to the classic Bioshock. Everything you loved about Bioshock returns in Bioshock 2 and then some. This time around your character is one of the first Big Daddys and he's been awakened after a number of years and has a BLANK to settle.Visuals: Amazing and immersive visuals with a wonderfully dark and campy sensibility to them. This time around you are not limited to moving around within te city but can explore some underwater areas around the city as well. It's a nice touch. Audio: Set in the 1950's this time you get a brilliant soundtrack of the era to go along with the adventure. As with the first game the creative selection of music really adds to the whole gaming experience. Fighting: If you have played the first game you will have no problem pickng up where you left off with Bioshock 2. This time around you can duel wield plasmids in one hand with firearms in the other. You have loads of new plasmids and firearms to experiment with. The environment is reasonable destructible so it encourages you to leave no stone unturned in your quest. Game Modes: The game has truly taken a step forward with the addition of multiplayer online gaming modes. The previous version was single player only. Anyone familiar with Call of Duty will have no problem becoming familiar with the multiplayer gaming modes in Bioshock 2 which includes Survival of the Fittest (Free for all), Civil War (Team Dethmatch) and Capture the Sister (Capture the Flag). You get a number of player types to choose from and customize/build on for these modes and maps are from the single player mode of the game. Story: A compelling story but not as great as the original. Partly this is due to the fact that Bioshock was a groundbreaking game and it is REALLY hard to improve on that. The good news is Bioshock 2 is at least as good as the first (probably better) with the only drawback being that it cannot be as groundbreaking as the first for obvious reasons. All in all a fantastic and worthwhile game with loads more playing time due to the multiplayer modes.

Bioshock 2 almost lives up to it's predecessor,

While a good game and very much in the Bioshock family, this games hacking mini game is boring, the item pickups through corpse looting and other added extras just don't add to the game in any meaningful way. They attempt to RPG an FPS but don't pull it off well. On the other hand, this is a fun addition to the Bioshock family which extends the story for the universe in a legitimate way, allowing you to learn more about the events that take place both before and after Bioshock. Playing a Big Daddy isn't quite as satisfying at i would have thought, but its still loads of fun.

The Good:- It's quite the atmospheric game. The art design and excellent sound effects draw you right into the world of Rapture. However creepy it may be, it's not very scary, allowing for a larger audience. - Dual wielding plasmids and weapons is a success, making combat much smoother than the original game. - Some neat moments in the game, leading to a good ending. - The new hacking minigame is much less obtrusive than the old Pipe Dreams minigame. - Multiplayer adds to value of the game. The Bad: - Feels more like an expansion pack than a full game. It just doesn't really provide anything new. As a result, Rapture doesn't quite have the mystery of the original game - you already know them by now. - Defending the little sisters from waves after waves of enemies get old fast. - It assumes you've played the first game and know everything about the game world (not necessarily that bad, since new players should play Bioshock 1 first anyway). - The game is short, and the levels feel a little too same-y. Overall: Despite the sameness of the game, it is still very fun to play, and that's really all that matters. The story, while not as memorable as the first game, is not bad by any means. If you're new to the series, please play the original game first - not only will you familiarize yourself with the settings and learn the background, you'll spot some neat references to that in this game. If you have already played Bioshock before, I definitely recommend you trying this one out too. It's worth your time!
