As part of the promotional campaign of her fourth album 'Rated R', Def Jam Recordings released this 3 CD collector's set of Rihanna's 3 first studio albums in December 2009 for a low price. I totally loved it, since it includes the original CDs with their respective artwork, booklet, liner notes, etc. housed in a box with extras like a 2-side poster with pictures from the 'Rated R' photoshoot and a spot to insert the 'Rated R' CD. The albums are all good in their own right:
Music Of The Sun - Released in August 2005. It's an album inspired by Rihanna's childhood in Barbados and the Caribbean in general, incorporates R&B, reggae and dancehall. It has its amount of filler, but it's a decent effort. Its highlights are 'Pon De Replay', 'If It's Loving That You Want', 'You Don't Love Me (No, No, No)', 'The Last Time' and 'Let Me'. Rating: 3/5. Find my individual review on the product's Amazon page.
A Girl Like Me - Released in April 2006. It follows the same route as her previous effort incorporating the same genres, but shows lyrical growth. It also has filler material, but it's worth it to listen. Highlights: 'SOS', 'Kisses Don't Lie', 'Unfaithful', 'Dem Haters' and 'Break It Off'. Rating: 3/5. Good Girl Gone Bad - Released in May 2007 and re-released in June 2008 as 'Good Girl Gone Bad: Reloaded'. This is a departure from her previous albums, incorporating dance-pop and distancing from reggae. This is where Rihanna actually starts to shine, she has stronger music and shows stronger vocals and becomes a new person. In the package they included the Reloaded edition with the new tracks, which were as amazing as the original ones. Most songs on this album are highlights, only a few songs can disappoint. The most solid and popular ones are 'Umbrella, 'Don't Stop The Music', 'Hate That I Love You' and 'Disturbia' (only on Reloaded edition). Rating: 4/5. The albums included on here aren't Rihanna's best, 'Music Of The Sun' and 'A Girl Like Me' were a little weak, 'Good Girl Gone Bad' is amazing but it's not her best ever since her sixth album 'Talk That Talk' was conceived. If I had to rate this package for the music included, it would be a 3.5/5, but I prefer to rate the presentation and convenient price, which is a 5/5. Buy this if you're a collector or diehard fan of Rihanna, casual listeners may want to get only 'Good Girl Gone Bad'.
