Product Description

From Amazon.co.uk

The Mississippi-based quartet 3 Doors Down has only one thing that sets them apart from other hard rock bands: lead vocalist Brad Arnold is also the drummer. The group shops the sounds of Pearl Jam and the Goo Goo Dolls, pointing at what they like, picking it off the shelf and throwing it into the stew. While the music on The Better Life, their debut, sounds overall both competent and confident, the songs themselves are equally uninspired and clichéd. For example, the riff from the track "Loser" is straight out of the Alice In Chains songbook, adding much more cringe-worthy lyrics ("Addiction needs a pacifier, the buzz of this poison is taking me higher"). In fact, most of the lyrics zero in on well-worn rock themes of aggravation, confusion and frustration, feelings that 3 Doors Down will easily coax out of discriminating listeners. --Jason Josephes

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic CD, Jun 1 2000
By
This review is from: 3 Doors Down:The Better Life (Audio CD)
This is one of the best debut albums I've heard in a long time. I was especially pleased because I normally wait to hear 2-3 songs from a new band before I run out and buy their CD. Boy, did I make a smart choice getting this one after only hearing the song Kryptonite. Very addicting music. Excellent bass player. If you like Collective Soul, Creed, Soundgarden, or Days of the New, you'll really like this. I'm confident that these guys will release more songs than just Kryptonite off this CD. In fact, it's not nearly the best song. This is a must have CD for anyone who claims to love good Rock & Roll. I look forward to album #2.

2.0 out of 5 stars UGH, July 30 2004
This review is from: 3 Doors Down:The Better Life (Audio CD)
Another boring album. shall I continue There is really only one song worth listening to that WON'T put you to sleep. Ok, so It's actually pretty hard to fall asleep with it on because it bores you to death.
it was recommended to me by a friend and I regret spending money on it. Out of their two albums I only like 3 songs so it's easier to just buy singles.
The quality of the songs was great , don't get me wrong, they have potential. It's the actual songs and combination of lyrics to music thats so bad.
Maybe next time.

2.0 out of 5 stars a nickle or two, Jun 15 2004

This review is from: 3 Doors Down:The Better Life (Audio CD)
if i had a nickle for every time i had listened this CD striaght through without skipping a track i would have... a nickle or two! The fact of the matter is that it has a couple of songs worth a listen, but they arent numerous enough to warrent the cost of the CD. A bit of a disapointment. There are also alot of bands who are better and more consistant, my advice... buy one of their albums.
Over all it has but a few reasons why u would want to buy it:
1. You are a die hard fan of theirs (highly unlikely)
2. The head of the Russian mafia has a gun to your head(slightly more likely)
3. For keeping the King of England out of your face (just play "Down Poison" and he'll run(a decent reason but u will also suffer))
4. As an expensive coaster (nuff said)
