During his lifetime Cole Porter galvanised audiences with his witty, sophisticated and often daring lyrics. He was one of that small and select band who wrote both words and music, and deservedly a great many of his compositions have become standards. This compilation spans three decades, and kicks off with one of the few contemporary vocal recordings of "Love for Sale", Libby Holman's being the only other one that springs to mind. The songbirds selected for inclusion were all top-flight vocalists (Frances Langford, Ginny Simms, Dinah Shore, Ella Fitzgerald, and Anna Maria Alberghetti all feature more than once) and the accompaniments were also some of the best around. This a disc of delights, with a detailed tracklist and a good liner note.
