It's hard to love a switch. It's easy to hate one though. This model just works, never had any issues over years of service.

I bought this switch for 3 reasons,..

1. 10/100/1000 ports. The page clearly says that it has it but it does NOT!
2. PoE Again,.. AMazon page says that it has it but it does not!!!!
3. CLI interface. Yes,.. it does have this.

SO if you are looking for PoE and a 1000 port don't buy this switch!!!!!!

Awesome Low Cost Layer-3 Switch Aug. 5 2013

This switch has a lot of features found in more advanced Cisco switches at a very low cost. One of the things lacking is dynamic routing but it has etherchannel, trunking, access lists, port security, vlan, and much more. Beware the command line is not like other Catalyst switches. For example, turning on layer-3 features is not through the "ip routing" command its through a system mode command. It has both a console port and HTTP interface. The HTTP Interface is pretty complete. I'm using it in a small office to define security zones via Vlans and access lists, and it has met my needs. One last note, the HTTP interface does not work with Windows Explorer 10 as of this date.

Layer 3 switch capabliities March 28 2013

The Cisco Switch make network management easy. Ideal for subnetting or marrying fragmented networks. I have standardized on this switch and will deploy over a layer 2 switch because it provides layer 3 capabilities at the cost of layer 2.
Just what I needed May 25 2014

I needed a small form factor switch that was also manageable for placement in my home network, and this switch has turned out to be perfect. I does support L3 routing, but I'm only using it for L2. Therefore, I can't speak to its L3 capabilities. Specifically, I needed the ability to trunk VLANs, both tagged and untagged, to an upstream ASA. The CLI IOS is a bit unique, but if you're familiar with standard IOS, you'll pick it up really quickly. Be sure to enable the SSH server after domain name application and RSA key generation to make the switch actually responds to SSH connections.

"ip ssh server" from global config mode.

It also supports all different flavors of STP, including MST, but none of it is per VLAN, which is quite different from other Cisco switches. It also supports STP PortFast, BPDUGuard, BPDUFilter and RootGuard on all L2 ports.

Overall, it's a light-weight yet sturdy switch that's well worth the money if you need something with a solid feature set without paying tons of money.
