This DVD is based on Frank Miller's novel. Another novel he authored (Sin City) was billed into a movie with a cast of excellent actors. His style is graphic violence and shock & awe, and now with CGI, even more arresting. The movie tries to re-live the classical battle of Thermopylae of long ago, a true historical event, whose opposing forces on the battlefield were the 300 Spartans vs the huge Persian army of Xerxes. The CGI is reminiscent of Lord of Rings, minus the actors. The 300 were chosen to look like bodybuilders, an anacronysm for the Age. The leader of the 300 is King Leonidas, played by Gerard Butler. Warner Brothers had a winner with this 2007 movie, but the casting of the actors was pitiful. Whoever came up with the idea of casting Butler as Leonidas should have his head on a spike, or at least, boiled in hot oil. Butler was wrong for the role, and we are reminded of a miscast named: A Connecticut yankee in King Arthur's Court. He yells loudly all the time to be heard. His acting is terrible and his strong Scot accent clashes with the period . . . After all, we are in Greece !!! A better choice may have been : Henry Cavill (Superman), Sam Worthington (Clash of Titans). If you enjoy pure carnage and violence, see this movie. See and forget.
