I can't believe this isn't revered...,

This review is from: 30th Anniversary Concert Celebration (Audio CD)
This is one of my favorite albums of all time. I will say up front I am a big Dylan fan. The performances of these musicians is outstanding -- personal -- heartfelt. I don't have the words. I don't know why this album isn't more popular but it was a flop. The VHS version did so poorly it wasn't even considered for DVD. Don't be fooled by the record execs -- this is brilliant stuff. Dylan's genius shows through in the way all the performers make the songs sound like their own, especially the O Jays, Lou Reed, Willie Nelson. Eddie Vedder's version of Masters of War is beyond words. There are a few weak moments, but these are overshadowed by the likes of Mellencamp (and I don't even like him) and Neil Young, who shouts out, "Thanks for having Bobfest". Buy it and enjoy it.

"Archie M" seems to have rather missed the point of this album, when he complains that many of the song versions here "have no resemblence to the original". That's the WHOLE IDEA OF INTERPRETATIONS! He seems to like McGuinn's "Tambourine Man" because it sounds just like the record. What's the point of that? Sure, nobody is going to like *everything* here (I could do without Mellencamp for example), but there are a few absolute stormers - Lou Reed, Richie Havens, Tracy Chapman, and - especially - Eric Clapton. I'd go so far as to say that EC's performance of "Don't Think Twice" is not only the high point of this show, it's the high point of his *career*. If you're a fan of the "Layla" album, and have been disappointed with the mostly soporific stuff he's done since then, listen to this - it's *blistering* - right up there with "Have You Ever Loved A Woman". Great, great music.

Almost too good to be true,

I didnt grow up in the 60's but I love Bob Dylan and this album is brilliant. I love that it boasts such a huge collection of classic artists all coming together for a vertially impromtu tribute to such a legend. It is clearly un - rehearsed and this is what makes it so appealing. The artists express their own interpretation of the songs and it is somewhat raw in places which provides a nice, almost commical touch. Each song is different to the original but you can still clearly detect the respect each artist has for Dylan and you can imagine the impact and influence he had on their lives and careers. Which was the whole point of the concert. People looking at buying this albmun should remember that this is a concert and although the CD is excellent, the Video (which I give 5 stars) is even better because the performances and the audience definately have more impact on the screen.
