5.0 out of 5 stars Thank you Julie Lavender! June 12 2004

Format:Paperback
We borrowed this book from the library and I can't believe what a wonderful resource it is! I am so excited to recieve my own copy and begin using it right away. Having such a relevant topic each day to introduce my children to, or to revisit with them, and have it already tied to scripture makes this one of my most looked for additions to our family library. Thank you Julie!

4.0 out of 5 stars light devotions covering a huge array of topics May 6 2012
By p31Mom - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
All of the devotions follow the following format:
-The specific date for which the devotion was intended
- the title for the day
-a brief description of what is being celebrated & and a Bible text to read with it with a brief tie in to from the item/event/person being celebrated to the text.
-questions to discuss
-a related activity
-the curriculum connection identified (skill, subject)
-verse to memorize with the text and reference
-prayer suggestion.

The things that are celebrated are not specifically Christian or spiritual or religious. Examples include: tape measure anniversary, cow appreciation day, national laundry workers' week, answering machine anniversary, national tie week, mayflower day, national housing week, vacuum cleaner day and national pig day. The selection is somewhat random and few are of major significance. Some are of national historical importance but most are more of a trivial nature. It might be a fun approach if you like trivia. The tie ins from the subject of celebration are loose and the connections somewhat awkward and reaching. This would not be a serious way to study the Bible or get into a deep study of scripture. However, it might be a fun way to the start the school day with a misc., unexpected topic and a brief discussion of a scriptural topic. Might be a innovative approach to beginning the school day, especially if in previous years one has used a more serious approach and Bible study was actually a separate subject for serious study at another time in the school day.

There are a number of days celebrating specific foods but not so many that the book would not be useful to someone with food sensitivities.

3.0 out of 5 stars It is okay... Jan. 10 2008
By Michelle Polk - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
but I didn't find it all that useful. More than half of the activities are not feasible. Also, there needs to be some preparation or the outcome of the devotional will be less than what is desired.
