When you're programming C# 4.0 and need a little help, this tightly focused and practical book tells you exactly what you need to know -- without long introductions or bloated examples. It's ideal as a succinct quick reference or as a guide to get you rapidly up to speed if you already know Java, C++, or an earlier version of C#.
Written by the authors of the acclaimed C# 4.0 in a Nutshell (O’Reilly), this book covers the entire C# 4.0 language -- without skimping on the details -- including:
Joseph Albahari is author of C# 3.0 in a Nutshell, LINQ Pocket Reference, and C# 3.0 Pocket Reference. He has been developing large-scale enterprise applications on .NET and other platforms for more than 15 years, and is author of LINQPad - the popular utility for querying databases in LINQ.
Joseph is currently a freelance consultant.

He was the cofounder of Genamics, a provider of tools for C# and J++ programmers, as well as software for DNA and protein sequence analysis. He is a co-author of C# Essentials, the first C# book from O'Reilly, and of previous editions of C# in a Nutshell.

Amazing reference for experienced programmers,
By Alex Selesse (Montreal) - See all my reviews
This review is from: C# 4.0 Pocket Reference (Paperback)
This pocket reference is excellent. If all programming languages had books written as well as this, it'd be extremely fast and painless to pick up new programming languages. That being said, this book is not written for beginners. It assumes you already know how to program, which was the case for me. It goes through the material extremely quickly but thoroughly. Occasionally I'd find that there wouldn't be enough information or explanation on a particular topic, but I believe this is to be expected given the nature of the book. In short, what I loved about this book is that it exposed me to C#'s language extremely rapidly and efficiently. It's pocket-sized, which is great. I also see myself using it later on if I ever forget particular things about C#. For any experienced programmers wanting to learn C#, this book is a must-have!

C# 4.0: The perfect synthesis,
By Luigi Zambetti - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: C# 4.0 Pocket Reference (Paperback)
As for the big brother book (C# 4.0 in a nutshell), this small one retains the best qualities of it. Concise and precise treatment, targeted and functional examples. There is only one chapter, composed of several subparagraphs. Fortunately there is a detailed index of 16 pages, so it's easy to find topics you are interested in. When a topic is what's new in version 4.0 of C#, is shown explicitly. The code samples are indented in a very compressed way, all in one line. The bookbinding is a little stiff. To test the code better would be download the LINQPad software; is very practical and immediate to use. The examples reflect chapters 2, 3 and 4 of the big brother book, then the readers who have already read that, will find an environment already known. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful

I've been pretty happy with this book. It doesn't have everything I need, but it covers all the core library, and in a slightly more convenient format than MSDN online.

A simple concise guide to C#, especially good for C++ programmers,
By Technologist "Neil" - Published on Amazon.com
Well I wasted many hours and dollars on some of the honking big books on C# (as good as they are) while all the time wishing I could find the C# equivalent of K&R. This is the nearest thing I've found to it. You might still need a honking big book also for occasional more in-depth reading, but for the fastest way for a competent C++ programmer to "convert" to C#, I think this is it.The book is about 200 pages, does fit in a pocket, and is easy to use. I will also buy the kindle version but found out the hard way that the honking big books are mostly useless in electronic form (unless you want to read thousands of pages cover to cover) even when reading on the PC version of Kindle, because of the poor search navigation. Now, where is the equivalent Pocket Reference to the .NET Framework? |
