Review

The most oft-asked question to gardening columns is what to do about slugs. This humorous little book offers fifty ways of dispatching these slimy devils of the night. No longer weep over munched delphiniums, no longer curse upon discovering a row of chomped seedlings or scream in anguish over the slimed hosta. From the totally impractical to tried and tested methods of slugicide, this book will have every gardener crying tears of laughter, the cartoons accompanying each tip perfectly depicting the cunning of the soon-to-be-dead. From Dutch slug-eating triffids to kitchen blenders, salt and nematodes, eau-de-yucca to weed burners.. Just show the book to your local slug colony and you won't see them for slime! A great present for all gardeners and worth its weight in gold to every slug sufferer. - Lucy Watson

Product Description

Win the war against the world's most hated garden pests with a battle plan of 50 effective slug-killing tactics-all amusingly written and illustrated with cartoons. An at-a-glance profile reveals effective weapons to use against the slug (including beer), and there are smart new ways to confuse them and set them off track. Choose from those 50 slug-beaters, and inflict death the natural way, by chemical warfare, and by the "surprise" attack. Never has such a practical handbook been such fun to read.

4.0 out of 5 stars little slugs, big laughs, Jan 18 2004
This review is from: 50 Ways to Kill a Slug: Serious and Silly Ways to Kill or Outwit the Garden's Number One Enemy (Paperback)
With its small size, its silly cartoons, and its irreverent advice, this book is as much humor as gardner's reference. Would make a great gift for a garden enthusiast, an insect lover, or just about anyone who'd get a kick out of the crazy ways that author Sarah Ford has come up with to combat one of nature's most resiliant -- and annoying -- little pests.

The format and illustrations in this book are great. The book is also of use to gardeners. I have already purchased it for two of my friends as gifts both of whom loved it. A really recommended it as a gift for all your gardener friends with a sense of humor. Or anyone who likes cute slug cartoons!

5.0 out of 5 stars Whimsical, but practical too, July 22 2006
By E. Helmuth - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: 50 Ways to Kill a Slug: Serious and Silly Ways to Kill or Outwit the Garden's Number One Enemy (Paperback)
Make no mistake, this is a serious informational book about dealing with slugs, albeit with zany, cathartic "methods" mixed in with serious tactics. Where else will you find a slug control guide that is both pratical and emotionally satisfying?
