Reliable and Simple Cookbook,
By Janie Tee (Vancouver, BC, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 500 Best Comfort Food Recipes (Paperback)
I have been making recipes from this book for the last year. I host homestay students, so I have to whip something up every night. Students from around the world enjoy these recipes, and my family likes them too. Beauty of this book is that it is reliable - the results are almost always good, if not excellent. The instructions are so nice and simple, which is ideal when you're in a rush. This is a book that keeps on giving! Whenever I try something new, it inspires me to try even more recipes in the book.I just made the creamy cauliflower soup with feta, and paired it with the whole grain irish soda bread - amazingly good. I used to use the Joy of Cooking for all of my cooking needs - now I turn to this book first. I recommend it if you do a lot of cooking for a group. It has given me confidence to crank out homemade meals on a daily basis.

I have made about 6 recipes from this book so far, and they have all turned out great. When I've been cooking for friends, they have requested the recipes, which is always a good sign that the food is good. A lot of the recipes aren't exactly "healthy", but comfort food generally isn't!

Don't Try the Meatloaf,
By Bernadette Pruitt - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: 500 Best Comfort Food Recipes (Paperback)
This is a book with simple, straight-forward recipes for foods most Americans enjoyed when we were growing up. It's fun to look at, but the only recipe I tried was a disappointment. "Best-Ever Meatloaf" was not the best ever, at least from my perspective. It was bland and had no character. America's Test Kitchens best recipe is better. So is the one off the Lipton Soup box.

I love to cook...so I picked this book up to refine my cooking skills. I fell in love with the simple instructions and the hints on the side to help complete the recipes. I made my first sticky bun from the recipe in this book...it gave me tips on how to make the dough rise...and a cool kitchen. I was impressed...and happy.
