Product Description

From Amazon.com

Like his friend Vince Gill, Brad Paisley has achieved the often-difficult feat of reconciling being an entertainer and world-class guitarist. He's proven that on four admirable albums, and 5th Gear follows in that vein. Certainly "Ticks," an airy, radio-friendly ditty, is not the true substance here. That comes with such superior fare as the insightful "All I Wanted Was a Car" and "Online," a sly satire of people's Web facades. While his duet with Carrie Underwood ("Oh Love") is a bit cut and dried, Paisley ably handles "Letter to Me," "It Did," and "Mr. Policeman," a 21st-century outrun-the-law tune. The closing hymn, "When We All Get to Heaven," and ripping instrumental "Throttleneck" are Paisley at his best. It's admirable that he invites his venerable buddies, Little Jimmy Dickens, George Jones, Vince Gill, and Bill Anderson, along with Dolly Parton, to join in, but the obligatory "Kung Pao Buckaroos" skit is wearing a bit thin. Better to feature them musically, the way he includes Dickens, Gill, and Anderson on "Bigger Fish to Fry." In a time where lines between county and pop are blurring far too much, it's comforting to know Paisley still realizes and respects the differences. --Rich Kienzle

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Fantastic Album From Brad!, Jun 15 2010

I love Brad Paisley so naturally I adore all his albums and for good reason too.Because the man is simply brilliant! He always makes an amazing album.
5th Gear includes 4 no.1 hits with the extremely witty uptempos Ticks,Online and I'm Still A Guy(a very funny reference between men & women-so true)and the reflective ballad Letter To Me,You can so relate to this song.
Other gems is the superb electric guitar filled ballad It Did and the cracking bluegrass themed song Mr.Policeman.Brad and his band really let loose on this one.Plus the Grammy winning instrumental Throttleneck and the gorgeous gospel song When We All Get To Heaven ends this excellent collection of songs just nicely.
There's a reason why this album was no.1 in the country charts for 6 weeks and why he's one of the biggest artist's in country music.

Prime Cuts: Ticks, Letter To Me, Mr.Policeman, With You Without You.

5.0 out of 5 stars My fave Brad Paisley CD, Nov 2 2009

This is a great CD - my favourite by Brad Paisley. It has the popular songs that are catchy and hit the airwaves but there are others on the CD that are real hidden treasures. The duet with Carrie Underwood was a pleasant surprise on the CD and I'm surprised it hasn't been on the radio. There are some fun songs on the end that just make you smile - you can tell they were all having fun recording them. The songs are well written and his voice is wonderful to listen to. My fave of them all.
