Product Description

Ancient Rome. A time of ambition, brutality, and lavish splendor, where human lives are manipulated and sacrificed for the glory of Rome. In 68 AD, the death of Nero brings civil strife to the Empire as rivalry arises between four powerful men contesting for the throne. The successor, Servius Galba, is murdered leaving his son Valarian to struggle with his own ascension to Emperor of Rome. An Egyptian mystic imbued with special powers from the God Ra aids his quest for revenge and justice. This adventure takes Valarian, his wife and his best friend through a tumultuous time that leads to a female gladiatorial exhibition, kidnaping, romance, treachery, mysticism, and intrigue as they search for Galba’s assassins and try to quell a rebellion.

5.0 out of 5 stars All Hail Empress Bellenger!, April 4 2004
By
This review is from: 68 Ad (Paperback)
A magnificent depiction of the Roman Empire as it really was, full of treachery and deceit as men let their ambition exceed their morals. Of course there was time for romance and the occasional dismemberment of Roman nobility. This book kept me constantly enthralled; each new development shed new light on the conspiracy that captivated me from the first page. The spiritual ending brought closure and made it an all around good read. Thank You!
Recommendation: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

5.0 out of 5 stars This is what happened!, July 24 2003

My girlfiend made me read "68 AD". I haven't read any fiction for about 10+ years. WOW. The book is alive. It really is good! I want more!

With only a few twists on 'real' history, these are realistic people, in realistic situations!

I expect this "68 AD" to be made into a big budget motion picture

5.0 out of 5 stars A Roman adventure, Jun 5 2003
By
This review is from: 68 Ad (Paperback)
After Nero's death, there was much chaos and confusion in the Roman government. The author has taken this period in history and woven it into an adventuress novel.

Valarian struggles both mentally and physically to retain the throne and be a good emporor after elected. His father, emperor of a few days, has been assassinated. Valarian seeks revenge on those responisble. At ths same time those who killed his father want to take the throne for themselves.

The author goes into detail and fleshes out her characters quite well. She is able to put you right into the middle of the action and creates situations that would have likely happened in that period of Roman history. I enjoyed the story very much and thought the ending quite unusal.
