5.0 out of 5 stars A review from someone who has PLAYED the game. =), Nov 17 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Half-Life 2 (CD-ROM)
I noticed that Amazon doesn't have a review by someone who has actually played the game, so having just bought the game today, I thought I'd throw my review in.

Firstly, since Amazon.ca also lacks a product description at this time, Half-Life 2 consists of 5 CDs that install both the long-awaited Half-Life 2 and Counter-Strike: Source.
The Half-Life 2 Collector's Edition (also available from Amazon), according to the Sierra website, has: one DVD disc that installs Half-Life 2 and Counter-Strike: Source,
a Half-Life 2 t-shirt, and a game guide detailing the game's production and storyline (not a walkthrough strategy guide).

Half-Life 2 is indeed all it's cracked up to be, with fantastic
graphics, sound and physics. Counter-Strike: Source is fantastic as well, giving the old Counter-Strike a facelift with new plays on old maps, great graphics and fantastic physics.

You WILL need to have an internet connection and register with
Steam (Sierra's online game engine) to play Half-Life. Unfortunately, with so many people buying and installing this game, their servers are backed up in registering people's CD keys. This means after installing you may have to wait a few hours or more for your CD key to be registered and for you to be allowed to play. Important to know if you were hoping for some instant alien-killing gratification right out of the box.

Finally, for those of you worried if your computer can handle the game, a friend of mine JUST met the minimum game requirements and says it works great on his machine.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is gonna rock..., Jun 21 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Half-Life 2 (CD-ROM)
Half-life was an insanely good game...I've been playing it and the expansions for years and it still exceeds many games being released today.

This game is going to outdo the first by far, as can be told from the incredible footage of the film, and will revolutionise the gaming industry and impact our lives forever...

5.0 out of 5 stars The biggest secret in video game history revealed!, Jun 18 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Half-Life 2 (CD-ROM)
The sequel to the monumental Half-Life game released in 1998 came out of nowhere to stun both hardcore fans and new gamers alike. Half-Life 2 will raise the stakes by providing a new cutting-edge graphics engine, as well as using highly-detailed character models and advanced facial muscle technology for movie-like realism never seen before in a game. The story is once again written by Marc Laidlaw, so you can be sure of a exchilirating (and frightening) experience.

The game takes place in a fictional city called City 17 in Eastern Europe. At the center of the city is the Citadel, a 200+ story structure whose purpose is unknown. The mysterious structure is closely guarded by an international police force which includes robotic drones, gas mask wearing soldiers, and semi-robotic creatures. And this time you are working for the G-Man. But have you worked for him before, and what is his true identity and mission? Is he an enemy or a friend? This game is sure to pose more questions then it answers, which is probably the most exciting part of it all!
