Good overall but the dust collector came off quite easily. Now I need a rubber band to keep it on.

Good Sander for the Price Sept. 18 2014

Before I bought this, I was borrowing my dad's Bosch random orbit sander. Compared to the Bosch, the Skil is a dream. It runs very smoothly, and there is hardly any output of dust a the canister catches dust nicely. It's easy to clean out as well. I just hit it with some pressurized air and it was clean in minutes. The sanding discs stay on very nicely, in fact I have to pull with some pressure to get them off. I used this to sand a bookcase I was building and it took me about half the time it would have with my dad's sander.

Great little tool Nov. 16 2013
By D. Wortham - Published on Amazon.com
I've had to rebuild my porch (which is more or less just a very small freestanding deck) and I got this sander at the local big box store recently. The price is the same as Amazon and I preferred not to wait for shipping.

Having never used a power sander before, I was very pleasantly surprised with the job this tool was able to do. An experienced hand may find the pressure indicator lights to be gimmicky but I found that feature very useful. The dust collector does an amazing job too. I still wore a mask but I appreciated not being coated with wood dust to the nth degree. As I understand it, the dust port will fit a standard size vacuum cleaner but I haven't had any reason to try that.

The machine comes with three disc: a leveling disc, a fine disc and a finishing disc. If you just have a small job to do and you don't destroy the disc by running across nails or screws or something then those included disc will see you through. These are apparently industry standard so you can shop for appropriate discs at most big box stores or home improvement stores if you are new to power sanding.

The disc are very easy to put on and remove since they attach with hook and loop.

Well worth the ~$40 price to make the handrails smooth, splinter-free and rounded corners.

Limited experience; works well. Aug. 12 2012
By R. B. Ray - Published on Amazon.com
I will admit that I have very limited experience with Sanders, but my experience with this one is fairly positive.

My wife and I purchased this sander in order to do a few DIY type projects; mainly repainting an old dresser we bought off of Craigslist. The wood was extremely rough in many spots and we figured it would be quite hard to work with. My wife did all of the sanding herself, without too much trouble, and the finish came out very uniform and beautiful. The sanding took place over several days at long intervals, so far we've had no problems at all.

It may not be the best sander on the market, but for DIY projects, I'd say it's well worth the price!

Great sander, never knew it was this easy!!!! Jan. 20 2012

Made my home remodeling go by so fast and the pressure indicator is a nice touch. Sorry to the user with the bad experience, had it happen many a time to myself with others tools, but so far this performs flawless. Price is right too!!
I like it so far Aug. 17 2014
By t3p - Published on Amazon.com
this is my first ROS, so nothing to compare it to. But I like it so far. Seems like plenty of power for heavy duty removal (funky peeling paint and raised grain on old redwood 2x6s) with a 40 grit disk. Not too much vibration on my hands. Did not seem to heat up.

The dust collector bag that comes with it fills up in a minute and is hard to empty. But dust collection works great if you leave off the bag and just hook the 1 1/4 inch round dust outlet connector to a shop vac with a 1 1/4 inch hose (like a $20 "bucketmax" vac head that fits onto a standard 5 gallon paint bucket) .

seems like $40 well spent
