Product Description

Chilly, forced, and overdone, this mixed bag of modern classics, tarted-up traditional carols, and trio of tunes penned by Beyonce Knowles doesn't conjure a single warm and fuzzy image of chestnuts roasting on an open fire or Jack Frost nipping at your nose. Rather, it's just another forum to showcase the band's Gucci bag of vocal gymnastics and crass materialism. The Texas trio takes seasonal classics like Irving Berlin's "White Christmas," "Silent Night," and "Little Drummer Boy" and embellishes them with their own trills and off-kilter harmonies, obscuring the songs' simple beauty. "On the eighth day of Christmas, my baby gave to me a pair of Chloe shades and a diamond belly ring," brags Knowles in the title song, a takeoff on the "12 Days of Christmas," without ever explaining why they lopped off four days. The band is shamelessly self-indulgent throughout the dozen songs found here, taking untold liberties, like renaming "Carol of the Bells" "Opera Bells" and recasting "Silver Bells" as "Platinum Bells" to reflect their multiplatinum status. But the low point of the record is when Destiny's Child hawk their Hasbro-manufactured dolls in the intro of "Platinum Bells": "Ladies, remember long ago we asked Santa to give us Christmas dolls? This year the dolls are you and me under the tree." Humbug. --Jaan Uhelszki

I have read all the diffrent comments that people have written and i feel you have not given the cd credit deserverd....... Although maby the cd was put together in a short period of time, I feel that the vocals on this cd are way better than that of Destinys Child first album No, No, No and that of Survivor.... dont get me wrong, Survivor was a great album but u still didnt get to hear the vocals of Michelle and Kelly enough. In 8Days Of Christmas they each have an individual solo song and each of them just as good as the other. Yes I do agree that Beyonce's voice is overused and would like to hear a diffrence in the next Destinys Cild album... And there are more than just 2 good song on the album. My few Fav's are, 8 Days of Christmas, Winter Paradise, A DC Med;ey, Little Drummer Boy, Do You Hear What I Hear, Spread a Little Love on Christmas Day (which is my ultimate fav) and This Christmas...... That is almost the whole album. I think the reviews that are shown on this are from buyers who just bought the Cd and wrote it a week or 2 after buying it and listening to it 1 time. I admit after I heard the Cd for the first time I regreted I bought it but after listening to it over and over again you learn how to appreciate the song just like any other cd. I congradulate DC3 on this cd and wish them the best of luck...... I dont get or understand how people wrote what they did but thats your choice..... I say the CD was GREAT and I advise everyone to go out and buy it........... I feel everyone just need to get out of this old school thing..... we are in the year 2004 not in the year 1960. Things are gonna change and i find it great that DC broke out of the original instead of the same old classic christmas songs. It gets boring. If you want classic go and buy "Now Thats What I Call Christmas" Dont complain because they are trying to stay witht the times they are in.

OK, so I'm a huge fanatic of DC, but I try to be honest with my reviews ... AND THIS IS TRULY AN AWESOME CHRISTMAS ALBUM!!! if you're not a fan of R&B or DC, I'm not trying to force you to go buy this (why are you even reading this?), but if you are, what are you waiting for? Since i'm really bored and have a lot of time on my hands, I'll give you a quick summarey of each song:
8 Days of Christmas is an awesome, funky twist on 12 Days Of Christmas. love it!
Winter paradise is cool because every member has a verse to themselves. Awesome!!
A DC Christmas Medley is a bouncy number with about a zillion different Cristmas carols mixed cleverly together and each member has a verse.
Silent Night really shows off Beyonce's vocal range. You go, girl!
Little Drummer Boy is really cool. It features Beyonce's sister Solange.
Do You hear What I Hear is my favorite! Kelly has a beautiful voice, and the harp and guitar are soooo pretty underneath it!
White Christmas is rather short but has great harmonies!
Platinum Bells is another short one but it's another clever twist on Silver Bells.
oh Holy Night showcases Michelle's rich and soulful voice.
Spread A Little love on Christmas Day is a good dance number with positive lyrics!
This Christmas is an awesome remake!
Opera Of The Bells is an excellent opportunity to show off DC's precise harmony! Jaw-droppingly perfect!
Proud Family is catchy and fun.
Emotion with Strings was a really pleasant surprise. Even my dad liked it, and he was stuck on the BG's version!
OK, this is getting very long, so in closing, I was once again wowed by these ladies! Holla!

Although I believe that this group has wonderful harmony and energy, I must say that this Cd is waaaaaayyyyyy tooooooo much!!!!!! It leaves you calling out for a tylenol. If it wasn't for Ms. Kelly's version of "Do You See What I See" I would have been completely pissed that I wasted good money on this crap. Beyonce's vocals on "Silent Night" shows her great range and vocal capabilities, however, we can count on her to complicate a song that is so simplistic. I expected much more from Michelle. Let's just say that solos are not for everyone. She is wonderful at blending harmonies with the other girls but her voice loses its quality when you hear alone.
I purchased this cd two years ago and i still truely believe that these girls just tried too hard on this one. Every celebrity that does a christmas album expects that their version of their favorite chrismas songs will be so much better than any we have ever heard and usually it is a total disappointment. What they fail to realize is that we love the songs just the way they are. Overall, this CD reminded me of a kid playing with a bunch of wind up cars. Too many things going in different directions. Tylenol anyone???

I actually don't own this CD but my friend bought it and we listened to it togethar sitting on the sofa waiting for some holiday spirit. She had listened to the CD before and told me it was 'weird' but I wanted to hear it myself. So we sat on the sofa listening.
The thing that bothers me about this CD is ... everything. I think Destiny's Child has a lot of talent but this CD was pretty bad. This isn't a very "Christmas-y CD" Yes. There are a few good tunes but the rest aren't worth listening.
If you want to listen to a real Christmas CD listen to Charlotte Church's CD. That definetly deserves a 5 star all the way. But this ... the lyrics that they changed on "8 Days of Christmas" were not "Christmas-y" and didn't fill me with any holiday motivation or spirit.
Overall: Buy if your desperatly looking for disapointment! If your a Destiny's Child over the top fan then you'll probably want to own this, only to add to your collection. However, you probably won't like it. Again I mention - Charlotte Church's Christmas CD is a better buy.
