Review

"A highly engaging introduction to art, this thoughtfully designed volume will inspire young children to see not only the alphabet in an entirely new way but also the world around them as they discover and learn to view paintings, sculptures, photographs, and other works and installations housed at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.... This would be a wonderful gift for any young child."
—The Bloomsbury Review

Finally a great children's book that actually encourages kids (and adults) to look more closely at the art. So many children's books pretend to be about art but actually only have simple rhymes and use the art as a theme. They never talk about the pictures beyond the subject and color. This book talks about light, time, seasons, emotions, etc. I find that kids enjoy this book at many different ages from young toddlers (2-3) up to preschool even kindergarten. A great choice featuring some of the best works from a world class museum!

This book is a gift to Philadelphia Museum of Art goers. The photography is excellent and the text instructive. I wish the folks at the PMA could take advantage of this resource by making it easier to find the works of art in the book, or to indicate where similar pieces can be seen when those works aren't on view. My almost 3 year old granddaughter was entranced.
