3.0 out of 5 stars THE LOWLIEST OF ALL QUEEN ALBUMS. Oct 27 1998
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
I have been a devout Queen fan since 1980, and I greatly enjoy their music, along with many of their solo efforts. With the exception of "One Vision", which I consider to be their best song of the '80s not found on The Game, this album is discontinuous and lacks real charm. Overall it left me cold. The "rocker" cuts weren't all that gripping, and the soft songs were somewhat trite. The Miracle was a step back in the right direction, and Innuendo was, in richness and song writing quality, a true to their haydays from '73 through '80--Mercury's swan song.

5.0 out of 5 stars A kind of magic Aug 29 2010
By Ben Nicholson TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:Audio CD
Brilliant album. It's a combination of a soundtrack and a everyday normal album (not's that this a normal album). This is a great album with the title track A Kind of Magic and other brilliant songs like One Vision, friends will be friends, who want's to live forever and Princes of the Universe this makes the album. But the other songs are good as well and they are something slightly different than usual.
This is a combination of a fast rock album and a highlander album. One of the best albums.
Brilliant album buy it

3.0 out of 5 stars It's not that bad, but not that good Mar 5 2010
Format:Audio CD
First of all, Queen was an awesome band during the 70's. They were writing immortal masterpieces like «A Night At The Opera», «Sheer Heart Attack», «News Of The World», etc.

During the 80's they really got into pop and most of their songs of that period sound old nowadays. They probably had a big impact during that time but when people think of Queen, they think about their 70's masterpieces.

The problem about this album is that even if the songs are not badly written, they are extremely cheesy and Queen were trying too hard to get inspired by what was influential that period. In addition to that, the songs were still having the same problems as the songs that appear in «The Works», they get you easily bored. One Vision, for example, is a really mediocre rock song inspired by the cheesy rock of the 80's.

The good point about A Kind Of Magic is that they got a little bit better. «Hot Space» was bad, «The Works» was boring. They are also good moments in the album. The song «Who Wants To Live Forever» for example is really impressive vocally. There are also good moments even if the most boring songs of the album.

After that, The Miracle, got a little bit better than A Kind Of Magic but Innuendo is their best since «The Game».

Would I recommend «A Kind Of Magic»? I don't think so, but would I tell you to never check what it is about? I don't think so. The good parts are worth to be heard at least once, but the album is forgetable.
