Excellent recreation of Victorian London,
By CajunQueen (ottawa, canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Metropolitan Murder (Paperback)
This is the first book by Lee Jackson that I've read. Unlike the other reviewer, I didn't find the plot improbable. Given the life choices and options in Victorian England, I think the plot was realistic. The time period is excellently recreated and I found most of the characters well-drawn and interesting. The exception to that was actually the continuing character in the series, Inspector Decimus Webb. I found him a bit one-dimensional and at the end of the book I would have been more interested in seeing Clara White, the house maid as the continuing character.I would recommend this book for anyone who likes mysteries and has an interest in the Victorian period.

Improbable Plot Fascinating Atmosphere,
By A Customer
This review is from: A Metropolitan Murder (Paperback)
I loved the detail and setting of this book. The plot was a bit overdone and the characters do not lend themselves to long term attachment with the reader. However, the research about London which went into creating the book reminds me of Caleb Carr's New York City during the same period.
