About the Author
Scott O'Dell (1898–1989), one of the most respected authors of historical fiction, received the Newbery Medal, three Newbery Honor Medals, and the Hans Christian Andersen Author Medal, the highest international recognition for a body of work by an author of books for young readers. Some of his many books include
Black Star, Bright Dawn; Streams to the River, River to the Sea; and
The Black Pearl.Linda Sue Park received the 2002 Newbery Medal for A Single Shard. In addition to novels, she has written picture books and poetry for young readers.She lives with her family in Rochester, New York. Visit her website at www.lspark.com.
Elizabeth George Speare was born on November 21, 1908, in Melrose, Massachusetts. Among her wonderful works are two Newbery Medal–winning novels, The Witch of Blackbird Pond and The Bronze Bow. In 1989 she was given the Laura Ingalls Wilder Award for her substantial and enduring contribution to children’s literature. Elizabeth George Speare died in 1994.
