Kane (Charms) once again displays her remarkable talent for unusual, poignant plots and captivating characters. Zachariah is a Soul collector in deep trouble with his superiors, the Minions (as in heavenly) for falling down on the job. When a soul collector fails to collect a soul on time, the possessor of that soul lives on and throws the whole system out of wack. By way of punishment, Minions send Zachariah to earth to live with the humans for a month, setting him down on a small horse ranch in Nevada owned by a pretty young widow and her six-year-old son. The humanizing of Zach is great fun and the love scenes sizzle (he's a quick learner); but, because of the nature of his job, death is also a real factor and brings some emotional contrast.

Book Description
A woman who worked the land
On her remote Colorado ranch, Rebecca Hale struggled to raise her small son alone. The last thing she needed was a drifter on her land-a drifter with no horse, no gear and no memory.
A man who had touched the sky
Zacariah was even more mysterious than he seemed. He wasn't even human. He was a spirit whose task it was to usher the souls of the departed into the afterlife. But Zack had angered the Heavenly powers and they banished him to earth, where he was to live one month as a human.
Stranded on the Hale ranch, Zack vowed to keep his distance from the desperate, disordered affairs of humankind. But Zack had a duty that had to be carried out, no matter what the cost to Rebecca and those she loved. And when Rebecca's gentle kiss awakened a new hunger in him, it forced him to choose between Heaven and the little piece of paradise know only by the human heart...
