Product Description

Album Description

Darla is pleased to offer a A Song For Lost Blossoms, a new record of ambient melody and transcendental mood portals from minimalist/modernist master Harold Budd and friend guitarist/composer/producer Clive Wright. A Song For Lost Blossoms nicely builds on both artist's previous ambient work. A Song For Lost Blossoms was recorded live and in studio at different locations including the artist's homes, at The Red Cat (Disney Concert Hall), Los Angeles, and Clive Wright's Desert Sky Studio, Joshua Tree, CA. These recordings represent the very best of Harold and Clive's work together over the period 2004 to 2006. Harold Budd is recognized as "The Godfather of Ambient Music". His works are the cornerstones of the modern minimal and ambient cannon.

Harold Budd and Clive Wright have hit a grand slam with this new CD.

I like this CD as much as any other collaboration that Budd has done in the past, which is no small accomplishment considering the numerous outstanding collaborations throughout his illustrious career, including classic collaborations with Brian Eno. Clive Wright brings a lot to this effort with Budd. Although lessser known, Wright is a force with the haunting guitar melodies and crisp production and mastering he adds on this CD. I rate this CD as high as my favorite Budd classics such as The Plateau of Mirror and The Pearl, both with Eno. I like it as much as The White Arcades and La Bella Vista, both solo works. I wish Budd would tour more, but since a couple of tracks on this CD were recorded live it satisifies my desire for more live Budd performances. I hope he continues his collaborations and believe his work would sound great with the emerging musical talents of the alternative rock band Sunday's Murder. Such a collaboration with this young and talented band would be sublime. In any event, solo or collaborative efforts by Harold Budd, the Godfather of amient music, is a must for your ambient collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars This has become one of my personal all time favorite ambient albums., Dec 3 2008

I first heard two of the tracks on this album on YouTube and I immediately wanted to buy the album. However, I found out that it would not be released for another five months. So I pre-ordered a copy and anxiously waited for it to come out. This album was well well worth the wait.

I have been an ambient fan for about a decade or more and this has become one of my favorites collections of ambient music. I have about five Harold Budd albums and this is probably my favorite of them all. Not to mention, Clive Wright is absolutely perfect on this album. Indeed, I think that Clive Wright's playing is what really makes me fall in love with this album.

The first track is 32 minutes long, and it is basically beyond words for me. It really is very close to being perfect in my opinion. There really is only about one track that I actually do not care much for. The two tracks of Clive Wright playing live are so phenomenal to me; I have listened to those two tracks in addition to the first track so many times now.

I find that it is hard to buy ambient music based on reviews by other listeners, because some of the albums that people say they love, I find that I don't love quite as much as they do. So having said that, I don't know if you will admire and cherish this album as much as I do, what I am saying is that I am extremely impressed by several of the songs on this album, and it is very hard to please my critical musical sensibilities.

Thank you Harold Budd and Clive Wright for this truly thoughtful and beautiful music; in some ways I think that this is arguably some of Harold Budd's finest music. Many thanks again, I will treasure these recordings for the rest of this life. Cheers.

5.0 out of 5 stars The master creastes another masterpiece.., Mar 5 2009

I have been listening to Ambient music since 1978. Harold Budd is a rare artist who has a melodic motif for a genre that can erase it. This CD is good enough to be compared with Ambient series of Eno, but while Eno has gone pop, Budd relives the Ambient as it should be. Do not mistake this for New Age - this is not saccharine but introspective. It is so good to hear the master mature and perfect the genre. After all Les Paul continues to have a regular gig on Mondays and he is well into his nineties. I am glad that HB decided that he will not retire.
