Review

Jemima works it out in assertive, often witty style. . . . Most enjoyable. -- Houston Chronicle

[Jemima Shore] solves it all in a most satisfactory way. This is good reading, a fine story well told. -- Chattanooga Times --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

Book Description

How well do we ever know our friends? When Jemima offers to flat-sit for her friend the last thing she is expecting is threatening anonymous phone-calls on her very first night. A vicious assault by Chloe's ex-lover the next morning forces Jemima to accept that she actually knows little about her friend's life. Fuming, she is determined to confront her. But then she discovers that Chloe never reached her destination ...and Jemima is not the only person trying to get in touch with her. It seems she was playing a dangerous game - and Jemima has been left with the aftermath. The only trouble is, Chloe was playing with some of the most influential people in London - people who will stop at nothing to keep their secrets hidden ... --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

2.0 out of 5 stars Jean would be embarrassed., Sep 9 2010
By Crabby Old Lady "COL" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: A Splash of Red (Paperback)
I read all day for a living, so at night, the only thing my poor brain can handle is fluff.

This book is fluff.

The plot is weak and the characters seem cartoon-like. The main character is beaten up by a drunk and then proceeds to make him coffee.

Picture a famous TV personality trying to spend an anonymous morning at a public library, in the Reading Room.
She shows up in a Jean Muir dress, expecting not to be noticed. By anyone.

I do like the way Antonia Fraser writes. You get a full picture, whether you want it or not.

The story bumps along. The ending is silly and disappointing. I did like the cat.

2.0 out of 5 stars Dosn't Hang Together, Oct 31 2010
By Nash Black "Troubadour" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: A Splash of Red (Paperback)
A SPLASH OF RED by Antonia Fraser is a title I picked up because I'd read with interest several of her historical works. Ms. Fraser does not have the special something that makes for a cozy read. The book was dull to the point of boring.
Nash Black, author of TRAVELERS.
