Product Description

'I have had a fabulous time reading A Spring Affair. I loved it. Milly Johnson does horrible husbands better than anyone I know and this time she has surpassed herself. There should be a public health warning with this book: only read if you can afford to lose a day. She has created a lovable heroine with a deliciously vile husband whose eventual come-uppance is a total delight. I emerged from its pages in a mood of sublime contentment' Debby Holt 'An irresistibly feel-good read' Jane Costello 'A warm, funny, and touching tale about friendship, relationships, and everyday lives. I loved it' Matt Dunn 'I love this author's easy, addictive style, which has you warmly racing through the pages here as a delightful heroine finds what she has been looking for. Lovely stuff' Sarah Broadhurst, The Bookseller 19/12/08

About the Author

Five-foot-tall Milly Johnson is a half Barnsley, half Glaswegian writer of greetings cards, novels and shopping lists featuring gin and buns. When not writing she is either reading, learning Italian, mixing with the Yorkshire glitterati, getting up the council's nose about a Dodworth Road Pedestrian Crossing or ironing school clothes. She lives with her two boys and a quartet of mad animals near her Mam and Dad in the middle of Barnsley, South Yorkshire.

Move over Jane Green, Jill Mansell and Madeleine Wickham, there's a new queen in town! I absolutely LOVED this novel and think it deserves more than 5 stars! After reading it, I thought Milly Johnson could easily become my new favourite chick lit author and when I read another one of her books I awarded her this title and will read anything and everything she writes now. I absolutely LOVE finding fabulous new authors and can't wait to sink my teeth into the rest of her books and those she writes in the future.

Her characters are so well developed, her stories flow effortlessly and the tension ramps up and keeps you reading. I was hooked on this story immediately and could not put the book down and read it in 3 days. This book even had me clearing out clutter almost as soon as I had begun the reading it (and this is not something I'm very good at). My only complaint is that it kept me up late three nights in a row so I was half asleep while reading it and I was upset that it ended so quickly!

I can't wait to read more of her novels and my last complaint is that they take 1-2 months to order from Amazon Canada (but it is WELL worth the wait) and I'm glad I requested two of her books from a visiting friend, but I'm sure this will change as Milly Johnson gains international notoriety for her fantastic stories.

Pleasantly surpised by new author (for me at least) June 21 2010

First time I read Milly Johnson and I will look for more because I really liked the story. The characters are real and likable, the main character is a real woman in her thirties not particularly beautiful or thin ( I can identify with that) and the love story is believable. Recommend it to anyone. Good book.

Milly Johnson ROCKS Aug. 23 2013

I have now read all of the currently published Milly Johnson novels. Not one has disappointed me. This particular book we meet Lou, a 35 year old married woman who seems more like a fifty year old when we meet her. She is married to Phil, who is your typical jerk husband. Three years ago Phil was caught having an affair and moved out for a brief period. When he comes back, Lou welcomes him with open arms and never questions him about the incident again. While at a doctor's office in present time she comes across an article about "clearing out your clutter" and how it will make you feel lighter. Lou sets out to clear ALL the clutter (lots of it!!!!) out of her life. By doing so she is unknowingly losing weight and regaining her self-esteem. She meets Tom Broom (the skip guy) and she starts questioning her life.

Throughout this book Lou not only clears the "material" clutter, but relationship and friendship clutters as well. The characters are instantly lovable and relateable. You will find yourself rooting for all of Milly JOhnson's heroines. PLEASE Buy this book!!! It's awesome, awesome.
Love This Author's Books! Jan. 19 2012

A Spring Affair is the third book I've read by Milly Johnson and it confirmed that she'll stay on my "MUST READ" list of authors! It's hard to say exactly what draws me to her books, but I guess it's that she just puts together a great story with great characters. I truly wasn't able to put the book down once things got going.

There were aspects of the book that bothered me (e.g, for way too long, she goes along w/ some less than savory actions on the part of others in her life), but her story is so good that somehow I can overlook it. All in all, fantastic plot, interesting looks at friendships between women, and something I love in a book -- wonderful, but realistic transformation of the main character! I was thoroughly transported and am so sad not to have more to read.

If you're into books of this genre, I would highly recommend this one!
Rewarding April 20 2013

This is the first of Milly Johnson's books that I've read, and it certainly won't be the last. As Lou's decluttering lightens her house, room by room, she starts to address the painful baggage and issues of her life.

Lou is a lovely blend of strength and vulnerability, and her shift from Lou Winter back to the feisty girl she used to be is a rewarding journey to witness.

It's a good job I'm not on a diet, though, because lovely food gets mentioned quite frequently!

Highly recommended.
