Book Description

Mar 11 2008 Women of Faith (Thomas Nelson)

They celebrated their love with a dance. But will it end in divorce?

John and Abby Reynolds were the perfect couple, sharing a love born of childhood friendship and deep family ties. They are envied by their friends, cherished by their children, admired by their peers. But John and Abbey are about to lose it all. On the verge of having an affair, John is no more the man Abby married than she is the long-ago girl of his dreams. They are strangers whose days of dancing seem gone forever.

They gather their three children to announce their plans, but before they can speak, their daughter makes an announcement of her own; shes getting married in the summer.

Abby and John determine not to ruin their daughters season of happiness, but as the wedding nears they are haunted by questions. Is the decision theyve made irreversible? Are there times when marriage--even the marriage between two people of faith--is truly beyond repair? And is it possible, alone in the moonlight on an old wooden pier, to once more find...a time to dance?

Discover the resiliency of boundless love, the power of commitment, and the amazing faithfulness of God in A Time to Dance.

From Booklist

Veteran romance writer Kingsbury also takes a thoughtful turn in A Time to Dance, a morality tale about the staying power of love in marriage. Abby Reynolds, wife of a high-school football coach in a small Illinois town, suspects her husband, John, of having an affair. But the true reason their marriage is about to crash is simply the strain of years: arguments unresolved, dreams deferred, and never enough money. Abby's own daughter and, of course, a renewed faith, make Abby (and John) think twice about divorcing in what amounts to Kingsbury's tribute to married love. John Mort

4.0 out of 5 stars Cherish Your Marriage Feb 4 2011
Format:Paperback
Karen Kingsbury's A Time to Dance is the story of a husband and wife who have been married for twenty-or-so years and now their marriage, which all their friends and family idealise, is falling apart. They are about to announce their divorce when their daughter gets engaged. After putting their own announcement on hold until after the wedding, Abby and John grow further and further apart while hiding behind the facade of happily married parents-of-the-bride.

Overall, I enjoyed the story, but I did think the disintegration of the marriage was rather drawn out. The use of flashbacks seemed a bit excessive. I think more of the story was told in flashbacks than in the present! But I really enjoyed the stories told in the flashbacks. The dialogue was mostly realistic, which was great! Most of the characters were well written. I know girls like Nicole, women like Abby. But my favourite character in the book is definitely Jo Harter. I could hear and see that woman in every scene she was in. Picture the character of Olive from Pushing Daisies, add a love of fishing, and that's Jo.

One thing that surprised me is the level of physical passion that was portrayed in a Christian book. But it's been a while since I've read Christian romance.

If you read this book, you must read the Author's Note at the end. In my opinion, that is the best part of this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars great book, lots of lessons Dec 13 2010

While reading this book you really did get the feeling that you where part of the couple's lives. The story is very real and the emotions that the people in the book feel are very real. It would be easy for many couples to find themselves in the situation that John and Abby found themselves in after many years of marriage. While I was reading the book I wanted to tell them to listen to the word of the lord and to say what they really mean out loud and not to be hurtful to protect themselves. I have learned some lesions from this book to help build a relationship, always talk and make time for each other even when you are busy. I managed to read this book in 2 days and I loved it and would recommend it to anyone looking for a good read. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not a bad read Oct 30 2009
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This book was not bad, I have to say however, that it was just that... not bad but not great. I didn't like the fact that they fought so much, ya there are disagreements in marriages but does it have to get to the point where two people that said they loved each other at one point in their lives, can barely stand the sight of each other at another? I did like however the fact that this book shows and teaches you how easily one can fall into temptation even when you don't think it's one to begin with. A good lesson is to be learned from this book.

I have yet to find a book of Kingsbury that makes me want to read ALL her books. I've read 4 thus far and have about 5 others waiting to be read and I'm still not a real fan. Maybe it's her style of writing or maybe it's because I've first read books from other authors and really liked their writing style and hers is not the same. So if you have enjoyed other books from Kingsbury then you will like this one too.
