3 and a half stars for this one.
book 2 in the series is a much better addition to the raven saga but still has it's flaws.
a new cast of characters and better pacing make this book better than the first, however i still fell that richard kirk has yet to find the right pacing for a pulp novel. the book still does read slow in a lot of areas, especially at the start where i think the reader should be immersed as soon as possible, instead of 2 - 3 chapters of describing what everything looks like, and the ending left me feeling unsatisfied and felt rushed with little closure.
although there are more action scenes this time around, the emphasis is taken off it in place of describing surroundings and the voyage our cast of characters set upon and a lot more time was spent in developing characters and character interaction, which was done well as i could actually picture the characters a lot more and get a better sense of who they are.
i have mixed feelings for this series. it is good but by no means great. it does have just enough for me to keep reading, with little hooks throughout the book hinting at big things to come in later books that i would like to find out what happens though.
ultimately you would enjoy reading this.
