A book that sends you to another world is a fantasy. A book that propels you like a cannonball into a surreal world that's like a combination of Dante's Divine Comedy, Burroughs' Naked Lunch and Vance's Planet of Adventure is something altogether different, maybe unnameable. A Voyage to Arcturus is quite simply a metaphysical voyage to an incredibly alien landscape that raises in its forms both the questions and the answers about the nature of reality, our perceptions, our senses (especially as regards to pleasure and pain) and role of God in all those layers of reality. Hints of Gnosticism, Calvinism, asceticism and hedonism waft across the pages of this tale like a fine perfume.Prepare to be amazed, horrified and bewildered by the sights you will see, the landscapes you will tread, and the parts of your mind that will open. A remarkable work only weakened somewhat by a rather superfluous beginning and some awkward phrasing.
