In 1958 Landon Carter is a shallow but well-meaning teenager who spends most of his time hanging out with his friends and trying hard to ignore the impending responsibilities of adulthood. Then Landon gets roped into acting the lead in the Christmas play opposite the most renowned goody two-shoes in town: Jamie Sullivan. Against his best intentions and the taunts of his buddies, Landon finds himself falling for Jamie and learning some central lessons in life.
Like John Irving's A Prayer for Owen Meany, Sparks maintains a delicate and rarely seen balance of humor and sentiment. While the plot may not be the most original, this boy-makes-good tearjerker will certainly reel in the fans. Look for a movie starring beautiful people or, better yet, snuggle under the covers with your tissues nearby and let your inner sap run wild. --Nancy R.E. O'Brien --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

First it will make you smile, then cry,
By A Customer
This review is from: A Walk to Remember (Mass Market Paperback)
I LOVE this book! I admit I only read it after seeing the movie, but i am sooo glad i did! it is the BEST book I have ever read! I am only 15 years old and have read it at least 30 times since i was 13. I have actually read most of Nicholas Sparks' books, but this one really stood out and touched me. I sit there and SOB for literally 30 minutes after i finish reading it. Jamie and Landon are both believable characters which made me fall in love with this book. This novel proves how fate has a way of working out. Landon was always mean to Jamie, but they ended up together. I suggest a big box of tissues when reading this because of all of his books, it is the saddest because Jamie is such a sweet character and was a good person. I just hope other people will read this and realize how absolutely wonderful this book is. I never thought i'd smile and cry so much from a book! You will LOVE "A walk to remember" so read it, you won't regret it! And if you're too lazy, rent the movie, which isn't quite the same or as sad, but still the point of the story gets out there. It's good for people my age to realize how lucky they have it and how not to judge other people because you never know what they could be dealing with at home or in their personal life. READ THIS BOOK!! ;) I'd give it 100 stars, but this only goes up to 5!

"A Walk to Remember" tells a story of a 40 year old man looking back on his senior year of high school as well as his first true LOVE! Nicholas Sparks plays with your emotions and makes you want to keep on reading. There were many moments in the book where I didn't want to put the book down. I wanted to keep on reading until I found out what was going to happen next. This was somewhat of a simple book, but Nicholas Sparks has an interesting way of writing. I don't really like reading, but I enjoyed reading this novel. It took me into another world. A world that was much different from mine and a world that I could definitely learn from.

seriously, if you want to hear about this story so much, go see the movie. this book was the most revolting, disgusting, boring, cliche'd book ive ever read. it was much too religious for anyone to stand too. i cannot understand at all why there are so many five star reviews and how this guy is a ny times bestseller author. its just insanely BAAAAAAAAAD!!!!!!!!!!
