Product Description

Book Description

A Way of Being was written in the early 1980s, near the end of Carl Rogers's career, and serves as a coda to his classic On Becoming a Person. More personal and philosophical than his earlier writings, it traces his professional and personal development and ends with a person-centered prophecy, in which he predicts a future changing in the direction of more humaneness. Now, fifteen years later, the psychiatrist and best-selling author Dr. Irvin Yalom revisits A Way of Being, offering a contemporary view of this remarkable work.

About the Author

Carl Rogers(1902-1987) was one of the most influential psychologists in American history. He received many honors, including the first Distinguished Professsional Contributor Award and the Distinguished Scientific Contribution Award of the American Psychological Association.

4.0 out of 5 stars The primacy of experience, Oct 26 2009
By
Robert Décarie (Gatineau, QC, Canada) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: A Way of Being (Paperback)
Late thoughts from someone that valued so much the importance of experiencing life. Key concepts revisited: congruence, empathy, relationship, group and community processes. Also hints on some transpersonnal matters: intuition, enhanced states of consciuousness, extraordinary experiences. And, as always, a deep and sensitive sense of and reverence for the richness and uniqueness of individuals.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book!, Nov 17 2003
By
Jeffrey McAndrew (North Fond du Lac, WI) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Way of Being (Paperback)
Rogers had the secret when he started down the path of encounter groups. He seemed to be evolving even in his later years, where he found that even more hope existed in the world, if only we could tap that hope and positive energy.

5.0 out of 5 stars More people should read Carl Rogers, July 28 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: A Way of Being (Paperback)
This is a good book to read in addition to "becoming a person." Reading these books will give you insight and ideas as well as refreshing your perception and making you feel great! I found Carl Rogers to elaborate many of the themes that I felt rising up in me while I sat through countless University lectures in Psychology. Rogers also deals with the future of education, and it's plain to see that Universities still have much work to do in this arena, work which they desperately need to undertake. Buy this book!
