Product Description

Product Description

The world has been devastated by an epidemic. Although there are pockets of an attempted continuation of civilisation, the truth is that the world has gone to hell in a handcart. The reason for this is a disease that has wiped out most of the world's population. It kills almost all those who are not of the blood group 'O neg'. Those people who survive are untouched. Everyone else dies. Infrastructures have collapsed. Mobs run rampant. The only kind of law that exists is that imposed by the people with the biggest guns. In this devastated and chaotic world who can bring hope and order? Post-Apocalyptic Robin Hood. As crazed gangs and dangerous cults take charge of the UK, one man takes a stand - a man who is shrouded in the mystery of a very well-known myth.

3.0 out of 5 stars Post-apocalyptic retelling of the Robin Hood story, Sep 7 2009

Ce commentaire est de: AFTERBLIGHT CHRONICLES: ARROWHEAD (Paperback)
Arrowhead is the fourth in Abaddon's delightfully morbid 'Afterblight' series. Like the other books in the series, it can be read as a stand-alone (but is more fun if you've read the others).

Arrowhead is perhaps the most insular book in the series - all the activity taking place in Nottingham. After a plague wipes out pretty much everyone, a deranged French mercenary raises an army and moves through the Chunnel to take over England. For various reasons (most of which plot-driven), our new French overlords set up in Nottingham Castle.

The book is fairly limited in scope. Once the new Sheriff is installed, it doesn't take long to introduce the readers to the new Robin, Maid Marian, Friar Tuck and Little John. (The first two are conveniently named Rob and Mary, so you don't miss anything). They live in Sherwood Forest and fight the rich to feed the poor.

The set-piece action scenes are all simply post-apocalyptic re-enactments of the famous Robin Hood stories - freeing the hanging hostages, attacking the castle - even Robin & Little John's fight with staves.

To his credit, the author tries a bit to bring the characters to life, but overall, this is an excuse for a fun re-creation, and not anything original. As such, it is a bit of a disappointment in the Afterblight series - the other books introduce original characters and complicated stories - this is a bit of a fluffy speedbump.

5.0 out of 5 stars afterblight, Jan 7 2009

This is an awesome book. One of the best post armageddon genre books I have read, and i have read a bunch. The action is non stop. Paul Kane may right for a small publisher, but he has huge talent. It is like The Lord of the Flies on speed.
