Many of you reported that the light output is way lower than 300 lum.
Please read the spec from the manufacturer. This flashlight was designed to work at 3.7V (typically rechargeable lithium battery)
It will work at 1.5V (1 AA alkaline battery), but to get 300 lum, you need to use a 3.7V rechargeable (AA size). If you use a 1.5V alkaline battery, you won't get more than 1/4 of the max power output.
Cree makes rechargeable lithium batteries for Cree flash lights. I don't know if Cree has one for this 7w 300lm Mini Cree flashlight. If there is one, it will cost more than this flashlight.
It has also worked good as a bike light and lights up the most of the road, fits perfectly in this generic holder that I also reviewed: http://www.amazon.ca/Bicycle-Light-Flashlight-Rotation-Holder/dp/B00DDM51NI
The zoom feature on it is so fun and useful. The beam is 7ft wide on a wall that's 10ft away, 1ft wide when zoomed. Or from 20ft away its about 14ft - 2ft wide.
Even with a 1.2v rechargeable AA battery, it's brighter than most flashlights i've had. Bright enough to see animals in the yard, enough to see animals (cats, deer, bear) eyes glow over 150ft away on the wide setting. Light up street signs 1km away when zoomed.
Certainly bright enough for everything, but to get the full super brightness you need to use a 3.7V AA rechargeable.
The color of the light is pretty neutral white, not blue or purple like some LEDs.
The size of flashlight is a bit smaller than a roll of quarters.
I've dropped it once from a shelf above my head while it was on and it still works.
It seems waterproof, the battery cap and lens cap have rubber sealing rings in them.
The only thing I would change is to make the lens a little more recessed.
The one I received has only on/off mode (i prefer it over the 3 mode one), and is labeled "CREE Q5" "dodocool".
Love this light, haven't had any problems with the 2 I have, and I'll certainly get more.
I like how you can soft press the power button while it's on to cycle between dim light, strong light, and a rapid flashing light.
Since it's LED and requires so little energy I can easily use this with decade old rechargeable AA batteries and the light is still insanely bright.
Definitely worth the cost!
Decent flashlight. Too big to put on a keychain, but small enough to fit in a pocket. Light weight and seems water resistant, though better sealing could have been implemented (no o-rings in the lens cap. Using a double A 1.2 volt Eneloop NIMH rechargable, the brightness is great, but I'll have to test it in the field to get a better gauge of whether or not a lithium 14500 3.6v battery would be more beneficial. That said, it is significantly brighter than any handheld flashlight I've had in the past, especially against a couple of old mini Maglites that now have burnt out bulbs.
I'd buy it again, though the shipping time and general variability of quality as stated by others is somewhat dissuading. However, I question some of these reviews, as almost none of them mention which distributor they purchased it from, do not go into any detail of their problems, or state the exact kind of flashlight they received. That said, it doesn't absolve the mismatched advertisement and some evident quality control issues.
I'll be attempting to highlight some things other reviews may have missed and avoiding things that have already been stated like detailed light intensity and battery usage.
I bought two, black, one mode flashlights from Gadgets Super on April 29th. They arrived today.
Immediate discrepancies between what I received and what is advertised on Amazon.ca:
They arrived in a small, yellow, bubble wrap interior package and not the box in the ad photos (don't care).Read more ›
