Using these this week has been pure bliss. The only other time I felt this instantly addicted to headphones it was when I got my AD700s, which are still my favorite of the cans I've heard with these in a close second. I've heard all the usual consumerist stuff (Beats, Bose, Skullcandies of various models, XB300s, cheap crap) as well as the HD449. Not an impressive list but I do have nice speakers which I can't remember the model of but they're some late 80's (guessing) Technics.
When I decided to buy new headphones I decided to research a lot more this time, read frequency graphs and such, videos, forums, you name it. I knew I wanted good sound stage, a strong but balanced low end and mids, smooth highs, comfy, and for music at home only. That sums up the K240's right there. So for sound these are great, they're punchy and their semi-open construction gives them the ability to handle the lows with ease, and a bit of the sound stage of the open backs, I find this the perfect blend for music, but I'll stick to the AD700s for movies, games, trance, and classical. Te k240 is my go to for everything else. The Hd449s for reference only get used when I'm busing/walking.
These phones aren't perfect though. Sadly no set of cans is. As comfortable as they are my ears do get pretty hot, I feel like the velour pads are a must have with these (still waiting on mine). They also don't like to sit very still when I'm moving around a lot, which is fine they just need regular adjustments. The materials feel durable but the plastics are quite hard.
Honestly I see these things lasting a century if you treat them well. The removable cord is an excellent feature and of great quality. If you can find these cans around 100 or less then all I can say is do it, you'll love them.
