5.0 out of 5 stars Great tent for the price! Mar 14 2011

I bought this tent for a light and comfortable backpacking tent. I am 6'2" tall so I had to find a light tent that I could use for two people and still be able to stow our gear. I have plenty of room in this tent alone and expect the same with a second person inside; assuming they are not bigger than me.

This past weekend I had a Boy Scout campout with my son so I decided to give it a try. First of all, it is very easy to set up! Poles are very light and easy to extend(snap in place!). The rain fly was just as easy to install. The first night, it rained from midnight to 6am. I never got wet! I did get a little cold because I had both vents open on the fly. The second night, it began raining at 2am and did not stop until we went home the next day; I closed both vents and stayed a lot warmer! Dry again.

If there is one draw back to this tent, it would be the side guy-line loop for the rain fly. It does allow you to secure it close to the tent which I like; this helps prevent people from tripping on the cord. The bad thing is when someone does trip on the cord, as they did with my tent :(, they actually rip the fly. I now have about a six inch separation from the fly and the piping around the tent. I am hoping and assuming I can repair it. But then again, I guess it's not the fault of the tent but more of the clumsy oath that stepped on my tent. I will never understand why people think it is ok to walk/run around tents!

I am really looking forward to using this tent this summer! I like the idea of being able to not put the fly on and be able to see the stars on a clear night. I would definitely recommend this tent to a friend. Next thing I need to get is the foot print.

***Just returned from another Scout trip. Forcasted 15-20mph winds but we experienced three times that! I was a bit nervous but I staked everything down, used the appropriate guylines and this tent stuck to the ground like a turtle shell! Three other tents collapsed! One was an REI 1/2 dome (pole snapped). The low profile was the key as well as following the manufacturers instructions! The tent next to mine was an REI 1/4 dome, it almost folded flat! For the money, weight, and durability, this is an awesome tent! I repaired the ripped fly by the way, still stood up to the wind!

5.0 out of 5 stars You won't be disappointed! Aug 15 2010

Just got back from a rainy camping trip and my first time using the Chaos 2. I was really impressed when I had woke up in the morning and couldn't find a drop of water in the tent even though it had been pouring literally all night. There is plenty of ventilation which kept any sort of condensation build up out of the tent. I'm 5'9 and my girlfriend is 5'2 and we both had more than enough room with our packs inside. Not to mention the 2 vestibules were great for storing our extra gear out of the rain. Freestanding and extremely easy to set up. You really can't find another tent that shares the same quality as Alps Mountaineering tents for anywhere near the cost.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Floor" April 22 2011

there is only 1 real problem I find with this tent, but it is only a problem if you would expect something different. that is, the floor material is no thicker than the wall material. If you buy this, make sure you buy the chaos 2.0 floor saver as well to go under it, or I doubt you will enjoy your tent for very long.

I give this tent a 5 though, because, well, a floor saver will save the floor, and should be used with any tent. the aluminum poles are amazing; especially with the lower price of this tent. By myself, on my first try, with no directions, I set the tent up in 10 minutes. It is very tight! this is good. Can comfortably fit 2 people with gear. Lastly, it is pretty packable. It fits back into its carrying case with a little less effort than you would think (still isnt easy). Packs small, I can fit it, along with my sleeping bag into the bottom part of my backpack. Very lightweight for a 2 person free-standing tent. Minor Edit: Also, the stakes that come with it, made me quite happy. Pencil-sized aluminum stakes. About 2X the diameter of what you would expect to come with a tent.
When my hiking season comes to an end in september, I will re-review this if my opinion changes.
