5.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive programmable power outlet April 6 2014

I ordered 2 of these to turn lights on and off at different times when I am away from my home, for burglery deterrence.

When ordering this, I was skeptical of how much I could program the timings. There are 6 unique on/off programs that can be set up by each day, the entire week, or the weekend. I had them set where the lights turn on and off at unique times for each weekday, and for the same time on the weekend.

Been about a month and for my purpose, its been working great.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fits, does what it's supposed to. April 2 2014

Pros:
- APC : I trust them since I had excellent customer service in the past.
- Timers work and are easy to program.
- Screw-in if your power outlets are compatible (mines aren't)
- You can easily remove the screw if it doesn't fit your installation
- Seems like it has an internal battery or maybe a capacitor that holds enough electricity for it to work a while even if no power source is provided. (You won't loose all your programs by unplugging it and switching it to an other outlet).

Cons:
- All 4 outlet are on the same program. Can't use different program for different items plugged in.
- Quite big if you only need 1 outlet.
- Screen isn't back-lit and can be hard to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loses programming upon power outage Dec 11 2012
By M. Childs - Published on Amazon.com

Works okay as a timer but the internal power backup doesn't work properly on mine. According to the documentation it's supposed to retain programming during a power outage but as soon as I unplug it from the wall the screen goes blank and the unit won't work until the reset is pushed. Made in China.

I've got four of the "power strip" versions of this device that work great.

***Update Jan 2013***
Normally I don't take the time and trouble to obtain warrantee service on a product in this price range, but since the package had an internet address I thought I'd give it a try. I sent an email to Snyder Electric, apparently the owner of APC, and their response was same day. They agreed to send a replacement timer with no hassle at all and it arrived in less than one week. The timer has worked fine for the last two weeks. So, for customer service the way it should be I am raising my rating to five stars. I will purchase APC again in the future too.

3.0 out of 5 stars Overall, it's fine Oct. 20 2010

Got this wall adapter for surge protection as well as the timer functionality to use with a home lamp. Unfortunately the timer controls the WHOLE unit, not just selected outlets on the unit. I had thought each outlet could be controlled separately. My mistake. But it wasn't very clear to me in the summary that this was the case. It's also a bit bulky. I was picturing a slim wall attachment. It sticks out just over 1.5" from the wall once it's attached. Seems to be working fine, just not 100% what I expected.

If you need a small surge protector mounted on the wall with a timer for the whole unit, then this should work fine for you.

one timer for all four outlets is the only downer. It's a little large but very sturdy.

works great to turn off all power vampires in my house. I bought three of these units.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not practical at all... Nov. 1 2011

Pros:
+ Can be programmed to turn on or off at any time of day and week (be sure to see Cons)

Cons:
- You have to really jam it into the wall outlet
- It's about 1.5-2'' thick and it's quiet unstable. If I just lightly push in on one side, the APC outlet will tilt that way.
- Takes up the entire wall outlet, so if I need to plug something in that is "always on" or just want one free for convenience, I'm SOL.
- The font size on that display is so small it literally hurts my eyes to program that thing. The "am" or "pm" in the display is even smaller (smaller than fine print on a legal document) - I can't tell which one it's displaying without getting really close. (No, my eyes are not that bad).
- The display is not backlit (doesn't light up). So if I want to program something at night, you have to get a flashlight or turn on all the lights, which isn't ideal if someone is sleeping in that room.
- You can only go "up" when you select day or time. In other words, if you go past the intended day or time, you have to cycle through all of it again. Example: if I want to set it at 11pm and I accidentally go over, I have to push the Time buttom 23 more times. The same for minutes.

-------------------------
Summary:
1. I do not suggest this at all.
2. I'm going to get rid of this and replace it with one of the products listed below.
3. It's poorly engineered and not at all ergonomic.

-------------------------
Suggestion(s):
1. Get the Belkin or Simple Touch timers. If the Simple Touch timer came in half hour increments, it would be perfect.
