I was dead set on picking up a G74 from Asus for Christmas this year but everywhere i was looking in retail here in Newfoundland had them priced way outside my budget for these specs.This was my first ever amazon purchase and i have to say i am wholeheartedly impressed with the shipping speed and service.As for the laptop itself, it is a beast it tears through everything i throw at it on high-maxed settings BF3 , witcher 2 , Crysis 2 etc. Its whisper quiet and seems to never get hot even after extended hours of gameplay.Its also a beast for the size and weight tho and its not very portable really. it isn't a problem for me as it is a desktop replacement and the battery life is very short as expected for a laptop packing the kind of power this thing has. the only thing that i could want more would have been a blu ray drive but really its something i can live without for the moment. If your in the market for a new gaming laptop this is the one to go with hands down.For anyone having problems with the track pad or the sound or the backlight functions id recommend flashing the bios and updating to the latest version but make sure u understand 100% how to do it or u risk bricking your machine. Id highly recommend taking a look at the official republic of gamers forums if you feel lost in the matter or unsure.

This laptop has exceded my expectations. It initially impresses with solid build quality and it looks like a stealth fighter. Nothing about the laptop feals cheap. There is litte to no flex around the keyboard. Top quality craftsmanship. When you turn the laptop on it is whisper quiet and the screen is amazing. Even under load this laptop is very quiet. Asus has done an amazing job with the cooling system. The color, brightness and clarity of the HD screen rivals my macbook pro (2009). The laptop comes preloaded with a lot of software so you need to spend some time removing programs you do not want. When on, the laptop is quick and stable. The video card tears through games (BF3, WOW, SWTOR). I purchased a Sager Np8170 with similar specs before buying this laptop. The Sager is based on a clevo case. The screen, quality of build, noise level, and performance of this laptop is on a different level from what I just returned. In conclusion, I am very impressed with this product.

pros: nice processor & video cardgreat screen with high resolution runs silently and cool awesome price solid design and looks like a bau5 cons: bad sound quality and volume,recommend external speakers overall, the best one u can get from this price level!
