1.0 out of 5 stars Total waste of money Aug. 8 2013

In the lack of many cover options, this cover will do in a pinch. The price on Amazon is double most other places so I find out. The cover is flimsy rubber and offers little real protection.
I should have waited and watch some Youtube reviews before buying it but wanted to have some kind of cover.
I guess I have some kind of cover anyway but will buy a better one when they come available.

3.0 out of 5 stars Just OK Dec 11 2013

Pleased with the fit and function, but the material is to rubbery. It does have a tenancy to peel off on the side while holding your nexus tablet. Exactly what I was looking for a product but expected better material. Should have waited for Google's new overpriced version, it looks more stable.

very thin, flimsy asus cover. doesnt offer a lot of protection, but keeps the slimness of the tablet itself. will probably sell and buy the premium cover.

2.0 out of 5 stars Glad to see accessories so soon but can't recommend July 29 2013
By William B. Partridge - Published on Amazon.com
I picked this case up recently, excited that we're actually getting Nexus accessories at launch and not months down the line (keep it up Google/Asus). But I'm sad to report it's not very good.

There's cutouts for the camera, speakers, headphone jack, and micro-USB port. The power and volume buttons are covered but raised for use (like on a lot of TPU/silicone cases). The case fits on easily but is flimsy feeling. The worst part to me is there's zero latching of the front cover and it's even thin enough that it's possible to see the screen through the cover if the screen is on. The sides of the case also flex off the device with even the slightest pressure applied so you'll feel it moving when you're holding it. The overall quality of it reminds me of those gel cases for phones that you can find for under $10 that get stretched out after a couple of months leading you to buying them again. So it might have been nicer to see it made from a thicker/stronger material.

For those wondering it won't activate the sleep/wake function since there's no magnets. I didn't really expect it to but was hopeful it might and figured it worth mentioning. Lastly it does allow for inductive charging, but with the thinness of the case I'm not surprised.

+ Adds a nice color option for protection?

-- Thin and flimsy
- Pulls away from the edge/sides of the device too easily making it annoying
- No sleep/wake feature

Overall it's a disappointing accessory. I'm not saying I was expecting something amazing but I guess that's what you get for $20. However, even for $20 I can't recommend it. Save your money for something else unless you really want this specific case. Even some of the $10-15 cases popping up on Amazon would be a better investment.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not as bad as others say! Aug. 1 2013

I received this product, and expecting it to be a pile of junk like the other reviewers were saying, I was actually surprised at the quality of the case.

For starters, it is extremely easy to put the case on your Nexus 7, and when you do, it is kinda snug. It isn't super tight, however it certainly won't come off on its own. However, if you pull at the sides, it may start to peel off, but it's not that bad.

The material is also pretty nice: a soft, durable, and smooth TPU type case. It is this material for the whole case, so you shouldn't have any problems with it scratching your screen.

The cutouts for all the ports are perfect, the only problem being that the volume buttons and power button can be a but mushy, but it really wasn't that bad. Overall, from a cutout standpoint, it excels.

However, the reason this case does not get a 5/5 is because of this: NO MAGNETS! The Nexus 7 has magnets built in for the ability to lock/sleep/unlock your device (I know because I accidently turned off the Nexus 7 with an iPad smart cover), however this case does not have magnets built in. This also means that the front cover flap falls open while being picked up/moved around. And this case is made by ASUS!! Asus is the manufacturer of the Nexus 7! I just don't get it!

However, that is my only complaint, and with nice colors, I don't think that your $20 is being wasted.

1.0 out of 5 stars Wildly Overpriced July 30 2013

Well, I think most of us are used to this. A device just hits the market, and you want some kind of case to protect it, so you order one of whatever's available (even though you make the reasonable assumption that the case you've ordered is very sub-par). In my case, I ordered this because the case for my 7.1 wouldn't fit the 7.2, and this was the case that's available right now, while many of the preorders won't ship out for another 20-ish days. For a tablet, that's far too long to go without any sort of protection. So I went against my better judgement of tossing $20 at a product like this.

It should be no surprised by looking at the photos that this product is incredibly cheaply made and does little more than offer a flat surface to cover the screen. For $20.

Generally with cases, I think you get what you pay for. You want to pay < $5, you'll get a cheap flimsy case that will look worn out and need to be replaced after a couple weeks. However, just because this shaped piece of rubber will set you back $20, don't expect any value. Anyone considering picking this up, I say you're better off purchasing some kind of pouch and wait for the good cases to start rolling out. I made the mistake of buying this massively overpriced case, and I'm hoping this review will at least deter one person from doing the same.

1.0 out of 5 stars No, no, no, no, no Aug. 14 2013
By Basil Kolani - Published on Amazon.com
This cover for the Nexus 7 is horrible. The fit is rather terrible because it's made out of overly-flexible rubber -- along the left side of my Nexus 7, my cover is very loose. Compared to the ASUS cover for last year's Nexus 7, this one is a cheap piece of junk, priced too high for such bad quality. I just got mine today and am on the lookout for something better.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth the cost Aug. 13 2013

The "official" Asus New Nexus 7 (2013) travel cover is a major disappointment. This is nothing more than an extremely cheap and flimsy feeling piece of silicone rubber. It has no padding or significant protection for the contained tablet. The screen cover is a very insubstantial flap that does not activate the magnetic screen off & on function. The control buttons are covered by the case and difficult to feel through it. This unusually cheaply made case is sold at a premium price by the manufacturer as "official" and is simply not worth the price. For better construction and much better tablet protection it is best to look elsewhere.
