The authors are prominent authorities in the field of abnormal psychology and this lends expertise and credence to the knowledge shared in their original text. The Canadian adaptation is an enhancement of the existing text and provides familiarity to Canadian post-secondary students with its illustrative examples and relevant legal and ethical examination of mental health issues.
- Dr. Sandy Jung, Faculty Instructor, Department of Psychology, Grant MacEwan College
The chapters I read suggest a very good Canadian text here. Other “Canadianized” texts have included Canadian research for the sake of itself. I don’t see that here. So far, it builds on the fine basic perspective of the original. I certainly intend to adopt it…
- Dr. Douglas Wardell, Department of Psychology, University of Alberta
Butcher's Abnormal Psychology, has long been considered one of the most authoritative and comprehensive texts in the field. This edition presents the most current and in-depth information about biological influences on the entire spectrum of behavioural abnormalities. It also includes multicultural studies and phenomena, which offer an integrative view. Extensive case studies of individuals with various disorders are included throughout; some are brief excerpts, others are detailed analyses. These cases bring disorders to life, and remind students of the human factor that is so intimately a part of the subject matter of this text.
The abundance of research discoveries surfacing in the field today has broadened our understanding of psychopathology, improving upon therapies and treatments practiced just a decade ago. The goal of this book is, and always has been, to present to students these exciting discoveries and to offer the most thoroughly researched and up-to-date analyses of psychopathology.
The First Canadian edition of Abnormal Psychology has been thoroughly updated with hundreds of new research references, many of those citing first class Canadian research, to accurately reflect the ever-changing field, the prevalence of disorders and the treatment programs offered in Canada today.

This review is from: Abnormal Psychology, First Canadian Edition (Hardcover)
A great book for anyone interested in Abnormal Psychology. It covers the subject in a well organized manner. It includes case studies and current issues for discussion. It does not focus specifically on disorders, however, rather it mentions the relevant disroders in the context of well organized chapters and topics.

It arrived my place on time, and it is cheaper than in school's bookstore. It also contains MYPSYCHLAB code, too. But the UPS did not delivered it to me successfully at first time. Fortunately, I still received it successfully.
