Director Clint Eastwood's 1997 box-office hit stars himself as Luther Whitney, a highly skilled thief who finds himself in the wrong place at the wrong time, witnessing the murder of a woman involved in a secret tryst with the U.S. president (played by Gene Hackman). Determined to clear his name, Whitney cleverly eludes a tenacious detective (Ed Harris) while investigating a corruption of power reaching to the highest level of government. Adapted by veteran screenwriter William Goldman from David Baldacci's novel, this thriller balances expert suspense with well-drawn characters and an intelligent plot that's just a pounding heartbeat away from real White House headlines. Absolute Power features the great Judy Davis in a memorable supporting role as the White House chief of staff who desperately attempts to cover up the crime. --Jeff Shannon

Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Laura Linney and Clint are great....Gene Hackman is always great to watch. I would suggest anyone over 18 is better to watch it because of the beginning of the movie. Clint is always great to watch...but this one is a watch again and again movie.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting look at the corridors of power Sep 12 2012
Format:DVD
The corridors of power and corruption the old saying power corrupts and absolute power absolutely corrupts! Ile the previous films looked at in clint's 35 film opus Kelly's Heroes, Firefox, Heartbreak Ridge,...it would be wrong to think of this character as being totally motivated by patriotism, although he is highly patriotic, which influences all his insubordination, but there is a hidden force within him which seems to support him in whatever role he undertakes,,,here we have a box office hit like In the line of Fire...with Gene Hackman as president during the clinton era although no analogy should be drawn and as a work of art that would be lampoonery and libellous, so a president who is involved with a woman and seduces and sexually assaults her, and the secret service come in and shoot her, and it seems to be a president suffering from hysteria and violence and control issues, not to mention misogny since the various problems are expressed towards a woman...but amidst all this Clint's character witnesses the event while robbing the place of jewells...is this a commupance due to the presidents evil within him, he's a person who deserves to be fleeced....and in the background and the director in very slow scenes and the camera is still are all these works of medieval art, a jesus crucified and many other works of art, which overlay and influence this work in which the thief is a good guy and the president bad who in this tension filled film which never lets up and which dramatises how power is abused and no one seems to care about the murdered woman at all she's forgotten like dust in the wind...all the attention is on the power broker and the thief and the detective story which ensues in this cover up tale of cold blooded murder and presidential priveilege which in this fictional tale was abused...John Travolta did a similar film in Primary Colours...the producers of both films stated they are fictional presentations...
